Diff Cover Bolts...size????

Hi. I would like to know if anyone knows the thread size of the bolts that hold the differential cover on to the axle housing. My cover is "sweating" out some oil and I am gonna fix it myself rather than bring it to the dealer and let it get beat on. The reson why I want to know the thread size is because I want to go to Home Depot and buy two bolts of this size. Then I want to saw the heads of them off so I can use them to help me align the cover during reinstallation so that the RTV goes where I want it to. I would really appreciate and help....thanks.

5/16-18. Yep that's correct. It's the only non-metric threads I have found on the trucks. Be sure to use a good thread sealer or you will continue to leak.

Make sure its high temp as well. I used some regular high temp stuff that was laying around the shop. It ended up getting hot and turning rock solid and leaking.

You dont realy need the extra bolts just to line the cover up. Seems to much of a hassle to me. Just my $0.02
