which forced ind.t-turbo,ati,roots is best for daily driver 6.8l f350?
i have a 03' 350 supercab 4x dynoed with 250rwh, 340rwt at 2700mi. wieghs 6440lbs. as it is broken in may pick up power.
daily driver and some work it does, but i want some more fun out of it, want to modify.
not many perfomance parts out for the v10 i would think that a turbo would be best but a kb is easy and cheaper.
in all your experiance what would be the best route for me to get max. power benefit?
exhoust-Lts and full lenth cat back
dyno tuned chip-diablo pred.
worked heads-from fox lake
extrude hone intake- fox lake
type of blower?

A KB would NOT be cheaper. You don't have a lower intake manifold readily available. And a custom one is not anywhere near cheap.
A centrifugual type blower makes for a nice linear power curve when tuned/spun properly.
I suggest the turbo route, Since the 6.8L is more of a mid rpm torque motor/drivetrain. I'd suggest building upon that basic configuration. It would be just about as expensive as a positive displacement type, but I like the Dr Jeckal Mr Hyde nature myself. Out in normal driving you'll not know it's there & still get the drivability & fuel effeciency. But when under load you get all that boost & resultant torque!

I think the whipple is a good choice. That is what will go on my wifes excursion either next year or in 2005. The only problem is they are not intercooled. I have not heard great things about the whipple or KB on the 6.8L but I have heard a couple of people who have the KB and they were having problems with the tune...

QUOTE]The Whipple coming out for the 5.4 is intercooled. It comes with a Lightning intercooler from what I read. Have I misread somewhere? [/QUOTE]
you are correct but this guy has a v-10
i dont know of a turbo kit that is available.
check with the mfgs and see what available. i know vortech make one with an aftercooler and i believe that Whipple makes a kit. i dont know about the others.

If you are going to build your engine and race it get the ati or a custom turbo. If not, a non intercooled twin screw is going to be good enough for the low end torque.

The easiest thing to do would be something like a ProCharger or Vortech, then put a really small pulley on it. Your not going to have massive boost with this setup because you have 10 Cylinders and 6.8 liters to fill, the only downside is most your power will be in the higher rpms where you dont really want it on such a large motor. The Next option would be a Turbo, but since you have a V10, I dont know if there is enough room under the hood. Its going to involve alot of fabrication and will be pricey, but it will give you the ability to make HP&TQ in the midrange area. I personally wouldnt consider a Roots Type blower because its going to be hard and very pricey to fab up, if you dont fab a innercooler its really going to be a nightmare for your tuner. Now the last option and IMO the best option. Trade the truck in and get a new Powerstroke 6liter, these new trucks can make more HP and TQ than you can get with the 6.8. Your prolly gonna lose the same amount that it will cost you to mod your 6.8, diesel is cheaper than the Super Unleaded that the V10 will need, diesel will get better gas mileage and dieselengine will last alot longer than the V10.

I have heard these guys have some of the best turbos out there and they also do a lot of custom work if you need it--- call em up and see if they already have one for ya

thanks for your reply BIGFAN but if i wanted a psd i would have got one i know about the power you can get from them and almost got one.
rather would have that f350 with twin turbo cummins runnin 11.2 but i chose a gas for a reason and feel there is alot of potential in the v10.
have alot of psd and cummins friends in fact my01'L had its first dyno run with a desiel club i was the only gas.

I understand and Goodluck on your quest.

Scroll to the bottom of the page 4, It seems like a user named Skidmark has installed a Whipple on a V10. Maybe he will help you

1st off their are kits already made for the v-10 from kb and whipple so their is no fabbing up brackets and such. i had a v-10 f-250 that just traded in for a 04 diesel excursion. i would recommend a paxton novi kit. it uses a novi 2000 head unit that is more than capable of 1700cfm if you ever desire to really step it up.
check outthe super/turbo forums on this board i believe a guy just did a install on a 6.8L
edit check out the link abovesince he replied why iwas typing. good luck either way

I did'nt know about the KB & whipple having kits on the market already? Sorry, my bad. If that's the case, then that sound's like it certianly would be the cheapest way to go.
Are they intercooled? And rrichy, are your re doing the whole motor? Or are you gonna keep the long block stock?
