Can you use a Navigator top end?

I was thinking of getting a used spare engine to build up the bottom end and keep my original engine stock. After looking around I found a few Navigator engines for a about $300.00-$400.00 more than the two valve 5.4L. Can this engine be used? I mean will the manifold and supercharger stuff bolt on without any problems. Has anyone tried this?

Not quite yet, but very very soon.

The Lightning lower intake won't work with the 4V heads.

what kind of benefits would being able to have 4v navigator heads have on our 5.4's comapred to our current 2v?

probably an insane amount of top end power. Also, this is rarely addressed at all in this forum but i imagine it would take significantly less power to spin the supercharger.

Oh how soon Don? There something you know that we dont?

i wouldn't. What are you gonna do with it? Nothing really until you can find the manifolds to bolt up to the heads. Unless you wanna pay to have all the parts fabricated. Spend the money and get a built engine and then just slap your blower of choice on top and cam it. You'll get 600-700 hp and all the torque you'll ever want.

Well, I'm assuming that the blocks are the same and it comes with a steel crank. I would then put the rods and pistons in and see if someone comes up with a manifold. If not I would just go ahead and bolt up my heads and my Kenne Bell and go.
I only want to do this once so I can wait a little while. I would hate to do all that work and have Don come out with a manifold and tune that's all. Thanks

Navigator 4V heads are different than the 03-04 Cobra/Mach 1 heads. The intake ports are not the same between the two. You can wait for the GEN 3 Lower intake in mid-late 05 or try to get a GT lower.

The 5.4L & 4.6L 3V heads have the same intake ports as the 03-04 Cobra/Mach 4V head. I HEAR the GT lower intake will work on the 03-04 Cobra/Mach heads, not so sure! Problem is, will the GT parts be readily available over the counter? Will the 01-04 eatons s/c bolt pattern be the same as the s/c on the GT?

I hear through my contacts, SVT will be looking to add some of these parts in their performance cataloge. Ford is looking to match PVO in having "Go fast parts" from the manufacturer.

For those looking to do the 4V swap. It will be lots of $$$ and take into consideration, that when going to a custome fabricated 4V lower intake, you have the correct injector size and they are at the correct angle to keep from burning valves... I can wait for the 05 set-up and save loads of $$$ on calibration R&D, and having custome parts made.

If you have the cash to blow, go for it!!

if you try to buy the after market cams, springs, gears for a 4v motor, that alone will burn you for about 2k. i think someone posted that the 4v heads only flow about 7 percent better, but dont quote me on that.

Cool

HI!... According to this articale, The NAVIGATOR 5.4 4-VALVE engine has a cast crank, not a forged steel one.

the lightning crank is good for anything you throw at it for the most part anyway. Only broken one i heard of is Sal's. So unless you plan on a 300 shot, i think you'll be fine with the stock one.

yes there was kinda an ordeal about that if i remember correctly. I think it turned out ford has two part numbers for two different cranks one being forged and another being forged but in a cheaper and less effective manner. If i recall correctly, forged goes into lightnings however Sal had picked up a cheaper one and stuck it in there in one of his builds. I could be wrong on that you'll have to double check the thread or check with Sal.
