Timing At 16 Degree No Ping On 91 Octane???
2003 lightning Timing at 16 degrees 30 degree weather no ping or detonation. ??? would you say that 16 degree timing is about norm. for a lightning with 6# lower 2# upper throttle body cold air etc/ if factory is 12 degree i should be safe with 16????? what are your views on this ??? thanks

6+2, WOW you got HUGE *****,
I will say this, I have never had to run on 91 Octane (TG)
But after much testing, I can say you want every bit of 16
degrees if your gonna race it.
However the 8lbs of pulley on 91 octane is what I would also
say is pushing it.
But schitt, being your detonation free in the cold temps,
I'd say you got yourself a great rich tune, and your fine

My street side runs at 17 degrees with a 6lb lower and a 2 lb upper.
My race side is at 21 degrees. 100 octane only...LOL.
93 octane on street side.
No pinging or detonation. We don't get that cold here. Cold is considered 40 degrees in this area and it only lasts for a few hours in the morning. It was in the 70's here today. Point is, we can get away with a bit more than colder areas of the country.
Also, a good point was brought up. Watch your plugs. I check mine evry time I hit the track...weekly. Use a magnafying glass or plug scope and look for sparkles of metal on your plugs. They will glitter as you slowly move them under a bright light. Inaudible detonation will sometimes leave this little tell tell sign, but not burn the electrodes off.

I DO RUN 93 OCTANE JUST DONE A LITTLE TESTING ON 91
I do run 93 octane i was just doing a little testing i run my tank down near empty and put in a little 91 octane to see how safe i was no ping that i could here. it was 60% temp weather i also have 100 octane when i want to use it am i correct in that stock timing is 12 degrees. So 16 degrees should give me a little lead way and i would say not quite on the edge. ROB am i correct 12 degrees stock i know i got a decent tune on my diablo across complete RPM and timing curve. ???????

JUBELANDS IF YOU PING ON 11 DEGREES TIMING SOMETHING IS WRONG
Jubelands if you ping with with 91 octane something is wrong i would say if you have chip you need a reburn factory timing is above what you described that you have next you say you ping on any thing more than 11 degrees presumeing you have a lightning you are way off somewhere??????

just testing for detonation or ping or rattle
As i said in one of my post almost empty on gas just put in a few gallons of 91 octane. OK i wanted to see if i had any detonation problems i realize mixing 91 with 93 + octane i was still in ball park say with 92 octane thats what my mix probley was i feel safe now anyway. because i really don't like dyno. I am not saying i didn't use one but they can't do it any good ever here of one blowing on dyno.
