One of the first things I would do is change the fuel filter on it unless you know it was changed recently..

Well first WELCOME; You do have the most beautiful color offered, But I'm partial.
I've got 17,000 on my tru blue, all I've done is bolt on mods, use it like a work truck, and beat on it at the track, NO problems, although the fuel filter is on my list before it comes out this year.
You should enjoy for some time w/little or no problems. if you just maintain regularly.

I also have to say it is the most beautiful color i have seen a lightning in. I was going to buy the 2004 sonic blue but i absolutly fell in love with this truck the second i set eyes on it. What is the deal with the fuel filters needing to be changed so often? Also the dealer i bought it at filled it up before delivery. I think they put 87 octane in it. The damn thing pings like hell under hard accell. So i have not gotten on it sense then and am waiting for the tank to run low and fill back up with premium. Should that solve the pinging?

Yea, the dealer probably put the cheap stuff in it, run it down as low as you can and fill it up with 91 octane or higher and you should be fine. The fuel filter on our trucks are very small and the fuel system moves alot of fuel through the system so the filter will plug with dirt and what ever is in the gas very quickly, once you learn your truck better you will know when you fuel filter might need to be replaced, bad idle, hesitation, and pinging can all be caused by a plugged fuel filter. thats why you should change it every 3000 - 5000 miles.

I have a camaro for the times when i need to go real fast. I didn't buy the truck to make my race car, just to have something fast and someting stunning to drive. I need it to be reliable or else i would be moding it. I might do little stuff. but no major stuf as i don't want to void the warantey i got with it. I bought a 60month/60k mile warranty from the dealer that covers everything under the sun. And i read threw all the fine print and everything on the warranty before i bought it.

Good Luck, the Lightning will make a nice tow truck for your car.
Like was said, its a good idea to change the fuel filter now, when they become clogged, the truck will go lean. Iam sure you know what will happen then.
Change the oil ofter and you will have many trouble free miles
