FTVB install soon, questions

Do you think the deep pan is worth the money? Dose the extra capacity make enough of a cooling difference to make a difference in tranny longevity.

I couldnt help but notice a few threads posted by Rob on the FTVB and I have decided to install one myself. Rob why did you not go with a deep pan?

any other install hints...

It's a pretty straight fwd install. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine.

As far as the pan goes, IMO it comes down to how you use the truck. If you had a stall converter and did a significant amount of stop and go driving? Then yeah I think it's worth it. But otherwise it's not.

Hey Red 92, I installed mine a year and a half ago and went with the deep pan. It only costs around $50 so why not. I made a few pics of the install and they can be found HERE.

Yes, the pan is worth the money. It does not add a cooling capability it simply takes the transmission longer to heat up. And it has a drain plug!

I know how much of a cheap bastard you are Clay so why don't you buy the pan at Autozone (part number Deutch TF 325) for $19.99.

You will need a new filter too.

I got mine with the deep pan simply because I wanted to poke a hole in my old pan and let it drain out that way... seemed like it'd be a lot less messy that way.
After seeing how big of mess you make AFTER the fluid is drained I feel the pan is definately worth it.
Also make sure you have several rags and some cardboard under the truck with you to catch all the drips... because it will drip... and drip... and drip until you close everything back up.

Here in NY where the weather is mostly cool and running a stock convertor, I feel all it does it look cool, hold more fluid, and cost me more but gives nothing in return.

For some it unfortunatly also creates a low point that some actually scrape under certain conditions.

BTW
Plenty of pictures in my Gallery too
Just click the picture and go into the Mod Gallery

The moroso trans pan holds 4.5 more qts and you keep the factory ground clearance.

The TF-350 is for the stock shallow pan, the TF-325 is the deep plugged pan.

i went with the moroso just because its shiny

getblown5.4...make sure that the snout on the filter is short (about 1 or 1 1/2"), my parts department (at a svt dealership) gave me one, not sure what is was for, but the snout was about 3"long and it wouldnt fit, not even in the moroso!
