What's different between Lightning motor and regular 5.4?

I know this topic has been discussed before but I just want to konw once and for all.... What is the difference between a lighting motor and a N/A 5.4? I have heard some say just the pistons but others say the crank, pistons and/or rods are different? So which is it?

thanks in advance....

Cool

I know it's most likely not what your after...

But Ford put the V10 water pump housing & bearing on the lightning to stand up to the heavy mech fan that would repeatedly see high rpms.

in the same area, are the motor mounts the same for the 5.4 the 5.4 s/c and the 4.6? How about the 4.2?

Lightning has lower compression ratio to help the reliability of the blown engine also!

The pistons are different, but everything else for the most part is the same. However some 01-up non-Lightning 5.4s came with a cast crank and not a forged. Aside from that, all else is the same.

If that's true about the long block being the same except for pistons & cranks? Then that shows just how stout Ford made these things to begin with.

I *heard* once upon a time that the piston rings were some sort of low friction type? I have no idea if that's true or not...

my 01 has a very nice looking forged crank

the forged crank has a thicker line down the center, a cast crank has a thin line down the center of the crank

I also believe the piston connecting rods pins have also been made sturdier.
