Mobil 1 concerns

I recently heard from someone that Mobil 1 has now started to reduce the amount of teflon in their oil and that this may be a problem for our engines seeing as how the reduced amount prevents the oil from staying on the moving engine parts after the engine is shut off. My knowledge of engine lubrication isn't incedibly comprehense, so if anybody has any information or insight on this feel free to chime in...

although I'm sure alot of us here run royal purple...I'd be willing to bet more run mobil 1. I know I do. I'd sure like to know the answer to his question as well, if the speculation is true.

Mobil ! is a synthetic oil, not an additive. It doesn't have any teflon in it. However, it is some of the best oil you can get for your vehicle. I've ran it since 5k miles...I want the best oil I can get in my intake.

Up until last year, I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska where the temperatures could reach as cold as -50 degrees below zero. I have only run Mobil 1 synthetic in my L, and I have seen how it reacts at these type of temperatures. In comparison to a non-synthetic blend, Mobil 1 is amazing. At those kind of temps, regular oil will sludge up and turn so hard that you can turn the oil bottle upside down and shake and it would not come out. Mobil 1 will get a little thicker, but you can beleive me that Mobil 1 is what I want in my engine. I will never use anything else unless something better comes out and I am convinced to change.

That's typical for any of the premium synthetic motor oils. The synthetic base stock allows them to have a much lower pour point. In the case of temperatures that you experience in Alaska, you have no choice but to go with a synthetic.

I would NEVER want teflon in my motor oil.

Whoever told you that is an idiot, just keep pouring in the good old mobil 1.

I could be wrong but I doubt it has Teflon to begin with....it would clog up all the oil galleries. Keep using it, it's great.

Any oil, dino or synth, Teflon or not, will protect your engine just fine if changed every 3,000 miles.

I have never seen a single report of oil-related engine failure on these boards.

Devote those brain cells to something meaningful. Oil is boring.

I agree. Oil is way overated for what it does. A good quality oil, a quality filter and a maintenance program will handle 99% of the situations anybody will see in this forum. It's not like these things are doing hot laps at Daytona for hours.
