Wow after reading this it seems like my tr-6's shouldn't be working, but I run them gapped at .030 on 1 tune from 15-18#'s. They have been in there for a year with all outside temps and 11 sec stock block passes without a problem.

So, am I to understand that a stock plug with stock gap should be able to handle a 4# and filter combo with no problem?

My 2000 Lightning also came stock with the Iridium plugs. I am told that they are made by Denso and are equivalent to !T-16

The rep. from Denso told me this.

They center electrode on my 2000 L plug is platinum. Look at the size of it. The Denso electrode is very thin. The NGK is a little thicker. The newer models could have switched to iridiums but the Denso guy is feeding you a line of BS about the older models.

This is the info that I found at www.motorcraft.com. (This is Ford's Motorcraft website)

Part No.: AGSF12FM1
Manufacturer: MOTCR BASE
Part Type: SPARK PLUG, PREMIUM/PLATINUM
Total No. of Vehicles: 7
FORD (7)
PICKUP F150 HARLEYDAVDSON (2)
2002 5.4L 330cid Fuel Injected V8 Supercharged Vin:R
2003 5.4L 330cid Fuel Injected V8 Supercharged Vin:R

PICKUP F150 LIGHTNING (5)
1999 5.4L 330cid Fuel Injected V8 Supercharged Vin:3
2000 5.4L 330cid Fuel Injected V8 Supercharged Vin:3
2001 5.4L 330cid Fuel Injected V8 Supercharged Vin:3
2002 5.4L 330cid Fuel Injected V8 Supercharged Vin:3
2003 5.4L 330cid Fuel Injected V8 Supercharged Vin:3

This is a pic of an NGK TR6IX. It has a fatter tip than Denso's. The Iridiums have a skinny long tip. You can see my stock plug shorter fatter tip just like other platinum plugs.

Tampa, can you repost them please.

If you're looking for a place to host them, I can do it.

When I look at these pics the tips on the Motorcraft 12FM1 look very similar to the Iridium .NGK TR6IX. Is the 12 FM1 platinum or Iridium?

bob, do you think it is due to the twinscrew putting off less heat?

Actually no I do not...

I have been running TR6's for years in my boosted Ford porducts. My 1996 Vortech'd Cobra @ 14psi - 2001 Lightning 15psi (eaton) -2003 Lightning 15psi (eaton) and now 20psi (KB) with no real issues. All 3 of these motors had long tubes on them and that seems to help with heat build up in the combustion chamber.

I have never had any detonation issues that I could trace back to the plugs I was using. It always ended up being a bad tank of gas or a tuning problem of some sorts that I eventually figured out. The best thing to do if the truck / car in pinging is to stop hammering it and figure out the issue.

The bottom line is that the TR6's work just fine in my applications, I swap them out about every 10k miles and they always look good so I will continue to use them.

I can't let this thread die.
I've had "anomolies" since switching to BR7EF's on my 4#/CAI setup (rough idle, different exhaust note, a lot of backpressure popping when coming off the gas), so I'm looking to go back to the Motorcrafts. I changed my plugs at 15K just for the hell of it, and noticed that my stock Motorcrafts were gapped out past .040 on all of them, and were running great with my 4#/CAI setup. I gapped the BR7EF's at .035

Tampa: GET THAT CHART UP, or give it to me and I'll host it!

Matias: Can I borrow your 7mm Uber-schlonging-torsen-bearing-coil-pack-unbolter this weekend? I'll order up some 12C's today.

Thx B!

Went ahead and got thw AWSFA-12C's to try with my 4#/CAI setup. I'll gap them to .035 and see what happens. Hopefully my idle issues will go away! My truck just hasn't been the same since I went to the BR7EF's.

No offence but
BR7ef is the same plug I have in my Honda lawnmower. Use Denso 20 or 22 or stay with the stock plugs and you should be OK. 50K on my current Denso's without a glitch at .40.
