do not need any smart *****. parts are not made by ford. always by someone else, as you should know, but you probably thought ford probably made the tires also. need an intelligent answer from someone. just like borla exhaust came on the cobras.

just because it is stamped ford, does not mean that they made it. i had a bmw 535 once, and came to find out that midas supplied the muffler on the car. steering wheel cover has ford stamped on it, i do not believe ford made that, nor the emblem that goes on the truck.
that is why when a new auto plant goes up, the parts suppliers build their plants close by.
does anyone have an intelligent answer?

Cobra exhaust is not made by Borla. I think you may be getting confused with the 2000 Cobra R, which had "aftermarket" parts on it from Ford (including Borla's cat back), but that was a special, low production car. Of course most Ford parts are made by outside vendors that Ford contracts to build them, but they are made to Ford's specs and are not sold aftermarket, so yes, they are legitimately made by Ford. I do not know who makes the exhaust on the Lightning for Ford. But most of these companies are ones you have never heard of, and Ford changes vendors very often, so it's a possibility that several different vendors have made the Lightning exhaust since 99. Just FYI.

exhaust
the fact is the exhaust could have been built by any number of companies each year or two contracts go out and the co. that will meet the ford spec's at the lowest price for lets say 10,000 units gets that bid. I have seen this on some recalls where the first step in the recall is to identify the mfr. and only one makers part is faulty the rest you don't replace also saw this on 03 mustang power window motors some were made by semens and were junk. you would have to contact somebody at ford engenering and give them the # off the muffler (julean date)to trace dack

was built in Alabama. My last BMW was built in South Carolina.
Lots of German cars have American parts.
