Angry Death Of My 03 Vette

I posted awhile back about the fact that I missed my L. after buying an 03 Vette last year. well, last Sunday while driving out to a wedding of a friend, I had someone run a red light and nailed me on the passenger side of my car. I didn't get hurt, but my car took a good hit. Nothing but fiberglass and glass all over the road. I guess it doesn't take much to mess up a vette.
I was told buy the other drivers insurance company (who came to the repair shop) that the damage would come to more than it was worth. I loved the Vette, but no more plastic cars. Well I guess you know where I'm going from here...I went down and picked up a new 04 L. Last red one on the lot too. Now I'm just waiting for the drivers insurance to get with mine and get a check out to me. I talked to mine this afternoon and after all is said and done, I should only have to come up with about $11,000. for the L.

Sorry to hear it.

The good thing is that you are OK. That above all else is what's important.

You're lucky . . the "plastic fantastic" does not survive impacts well.

The other good thing is you're back in an "L".

Sure is nice having all that room compared to the Vette, isn't it?

Take care and be safe.

Glad you weren't hurt but when you have a moment go tap around on the outside of the bed on your L

Both sides the full length are fantastic plastic.

This is true.

Here's what our trucks are made of:
(quote FXDX back in 2002)

Fiberglass outer box sides (quarter panels), polyurethene front fascia (bumper) cover and ground effects, aluminum hood, steel cab structure (inner and outer), doors, tailgate and inner box panels.

The difference

My top 10 good points of the L. over my Vette.

1. I can now throw the change down into the basket at the tolls.
2. I can now look over at the ladys and not have to strain my neck looking up.
3. I can now drop down down out of my L. and not have to crawl out of the Vette.
4. I don't have to worry about running over a morning dove and worring about it breaking the fog lights.
5. I can now find my vehicle along side of another and not have to look down for it.
6. A big rig can now see me in his mirror
7. I can now carry things in the back...(blankets) lite stuff ya know
8. When I go through a drive-in window, I can now reach the window to give them the money.
9.I don't have to get out of the L. to get the bank container for a drive-up transaction.
10. Less insurance $$$$$$$$

Downside: Not as fast as a non- modded L. and I have to start all over again on my mods.......pitty

Had 2 C5 vettes, Loved them both. Used to race the 2000 hardtop and the plastic panels were awesome. The car had a weight of around 3100 pounds and you could not do that with metal panels.

On the side you got hit there was a HUGE steel frame member that acts as a side impact beam. When I got my cage welded in this was a SCCA legal part of the cage. Plastic all over the street or crimpled metal fenders. Then end result is the same.

My top car is my F150. I love the room, looks, etc.

Great that you are O.K.

There are times when I miss my '99 Coupe, but overall the L just out does the vette in my opinion.

The hydra-formed frame on the C5's is one hellofaframe, though. When I went flying off I-75 in a spin at 90 mph I hit a 4" sign post right on the passenger frame side behind the front wheel (yeah right where the main PCM is). Didn't bend the frame a m.m. and actually split the sign post in two spots like a ginsu knife. The sign came down just befind my head (I wasn' t hurt), that's when I started to believe in God, LOL.

Again good thing you are o.k. and best of luck with that '04!

Im confused...

You went from a 03 $50k Vette to an 04 $28K Lightning and had to PAY $11k ????

IF my math is close they gave you $16k for the wrecked 03 Vette ???

Do Vettes lose that much value in a year ? Were you 20K upside down ???

Confused...

You're right, I paid 44k for my '99 and three years later got $33 as a trade in. Something is wrong with the picture.

He's fortunate to owe only $11k. Heck most people don't have $18k or so to put down on a new truck! Not everyone has there car paid off....lol.
