You can run either. It will work better with 16x10's.

I think the 10" is best as well. (I have 8.5" wide ones)

Don't be confused by the size printed on the sidewall. The actual tread width on that tire is only 8.7", therefore an 8" rim is ideal! The 10" wheel would be too wide for that tire.

M/T recommends an 8" wheel :

Oops, I was looking at the 28/11.5/16, I didn't think anyone ran 26's anymore...

You had better look again pal.

On your link (or mine for that matter) M/T has measured the tire on an 8" wheel, that is the preferred rim!!

Make sure you are looking at the 28/11.5/16 tire.
First of all I am not your "PAL". Secondly, put on some reading glasses and look at the link I provided.

Why should I look up a 28/11.5/16 tire when:

Besides, running 28/11.5/16 et streets on 16x8 wheels is stupid. The wheels are too narrow. Traction is compromised along with safety. With 20psi 16x8 wheels with 28x11.5x16 et streets on a 5700lb truck are extremely unstable at high speeds.

OK, PAL....You are going too far now!

First of all, I already admitted that I made a mistake and was thinking he asked about the 28/11.5/16!

Second, M/T does recommend an 8" rim for the 28/11.5/16 slick, go tell them the are stupid NOT ME, PAL!!

The tread width should match with the rim width regardless of vehicle weight.

There is nothing unstable about running an 8.7" wide tire on an 8" rim regardless of tire pressure or weight of the vehicle (within normal ranges)!

BTW, Gen 2 Lightnings don't weigh 5700 lbs, but I suppose you got that info from the same place that your tire knowledge comes from...

First of all you changed your post. I quoted what you originally said. It was nice of you to remove your comments which were in error.

I'm not your "PAL".

When did he ask about slicks?

Still, not your "PAL".

I have run MT et streets 28x11.5x16 on 16x8 wheels. The truck was extremely unstable especially above 120mph. I changed to 16x10 wheels and was able to hook better and never had instability problems at high speeds.
I have also used 26x11.5x16 et streets on 16x10 wheels and never had instability problems.
That leads me to believe that instability comes from using too narrow of a wheel.

My tire knowedge comes from experience. My truck was so heavy at the last race it went to the scales wouldn't register the weight. So my guess is that it was over 5500 lbs with driver.
I did make a mistake about the 5700lbs. I should have typed 4700 lbs.

Actually none of my comments were in error, I made reference to 28" tires, those comments were correct, they just didn't apply here!!

Your "experience" with instability, I assure you has nothing to do with 8" wheels!!

Your personal experience does not make your claims to be true, unless you can back up these ridiculous claims with fact, they are simply laughable!!

M/T would not recommend an 8" for the 28/11.5/16 tire if they would be more stable on 10's regardless of your experience....maybe you should write M/T and tell them of you findings, maybe they will change their recommendations?? LOL

Geeezzzz.....

Thanks for the input everyone.

I think I'm going to go with a 16"x10" rim.

Anyone has some used for sale?

I run my ET streets on a 8" rim and there fine but I don't trap at 120 more like 108-110 anyone who's running that fast would probably be running a 30" tire ( I am not saying you trapped at 120) But who would run et streets up 120 on the street for fun just stupid ( my opinion)
Too bad you didn't get 28" hoosiers they are a better tire and your rpm will be down a bit at the end of the 1/4 compared to 26"'s
Also Fomoco is right mt et does reccommend 8" rim or thats what there web site chart says
Slick
