Do these things get dirty and have to be cleaned out? I have noticed that every 700 miles or so it would get 1/2 full. Did this for months. Now l emptied a while ago and 2000 miles later it still basically has nothing in it?

Yes they need to be taken apart and cleaned. Be careful when removing the stone. It can break.
