Question about wet sanding.

Maybe you guys can give me some tips.

I just repaired a nasty door scrape with a paint pen.

Even though I applied it as litely as possible, the repaired area doesnt look smooth at all.

My questions are....

Can I smooth this out with wet sanding?
and
What grit of paper do I need?

So far today,1000 grit is as fine as ive found.

Im just worried that my repair will end up looking worse than the scrape.

Thanks Guys

Andy

I've seen that guy in the show "Trucks!" use 2000 grit sand paper, then machine buffed the area in varying finer buffing compounds. My 2 cents

Thumbs down

"Wet Sanding" is tricky business if you have no experience at it, especially clear coat. I learned the hard way myself. You may make it look worse like I did and end up spending 300 bucks to have the entire panel repainted.

Automotive paint supply houses will have fine sandpaper. I use 4,000 grit and a buffer to fix minor imperfections and the occasional mark the paint might get from things bumping into it.

However from what your describing......... a SCRAPE that you had to fix with a "paint pen" ?............ if the scrape is through the clear and the color....... and down to the primer....... nothing you do short of having the door professionally repainted is going to make it look any better.
