Possible loss of torque/acceleration after installing Nittos?

Is that possible? I had the 555r's put on the other day and ever since then it seems like I have a noticable loss in acceleration. Does that make sense? I get much better traction, but it just doesn't seem like the truck takes off as fast anymore. The only other thing I did was fill teh truck up with gas. Could be bad gas I guess?

I am gonna take a guess and say its not the tires. It may just be your imagination? Maybe the lack or reduction of tire spinning and *** end going sideways is making you think its not as fast?

I hope this doesn't apply to you since you just put them on, but...

I had a set of nitto 555s on my mustang a while back. One day I noticed the same thing you are noticing...slower acceleration. It kinda felt like I was spinning but I didn't hear it or feel it. A day later I notice one of my rear tires was completely flat. Had a nail stuck in it so the deflated tire was just spinning on the rim.

Anywho you don't have as low a profile tire as I did on my mustang so you should be able to see right away if it's low...but this may not even apply to you. Just a simple thing to check out though. Good luck

Both tires are properly inflated. Just wondering if since the tires are wider then the stock ones if that has anything to do with it. Never heard it mentioned before though, so I'm guessing not. maybe it's just bad gas. Too bad I've only got like 20 gallons left.

It's probably the full tank of gas you are not used to ...

I also noticed this with the 555R's I use on my 90 GT. I only use these tires to go to and from the track so I get a pretty good "before and after" feel. I honestly think it is a combination of the tires being a slightly larger size and, as previously stated, the lack of tirespin making it feel slower. Assuming you are using the 305-40-18 Nittos, they are not only wider but I believe that the extra width also makes them taller with could slightly change your gear ratio making it feel as if you have taller gears. Just my.02.

What size tire did you go with? If it's taller than the stock tire, it will change your effective rear ratio, thus making the truck slower.

I got the 305 45 18 they don't look like they're taller than the F1's, and if they are it's certainly not by much.

P.S. St. Elmo, I got your email and sent you one back.
