If you were doing it all over

Ok if you were going to buy a used L all over again what year and why and what mods would you do and in what order thanks. Im asking because Im going to be in the market for one and want to do it right the first time I plan on modding it so I was thinking a 00 just because of the cash I save from purchase price could go into modifications but you all tell me what you think thanks.

the same as I did the first time.

1. factory tech valve body
1.5 cooler thermostat
2. deep trans pan
3. 4 # lower pulley and chip
3.25 Different Plugs (TR-6)
3.5 some type of traction bar
3.75 Phenoloc spacer
4. Apten ported Eaton with Chip reburn
5. Electric fan with Aftermarket water pump.
6. slicks

cat back does nothing but change the sound, you need to replace the entire exhaust to see results.

Make sure you ahve a good tuner, mine netted me 425rwhp on a 3# lower with 12.0 a/f

me

i'm happy I went with my 00 over a new 01. Difference in excise tax and the money i saved allowed me to upgrade to the new style lights which I like better on the 01 and newer......plus alot of my performance mods. I like the 99-00 wheels the best anyhow. I now I have a set chromed. I took out the grills so they didn't matter. I did the keypad mod last night......really missed that from my explorer.

As far as performance mods go........for the money i've spent........knowing what i know now, i would have swapped in a built short block..............ported my eaton and juiced up the pulleys. Forget all the other hoopla bolt ons. Not that they don't make a difference, but i'd probably be int he same spot i am now as far as times and dyno numbers.

I'd buy a KB blower, run it at 15psi, offroad midpipe and catback, valve body, JLP Ram Air, good safe tune, traction bars, drag radials. Go run mid 11's all day long on pump gas.

Id get a magnum powers blower and built block along with a built tranny along with a chip, open intake and plugs and would just get chrome stock wheels and not spend 3800 on wheels and 2,000 in other stuff. I could have more power and be still happy with the look for the same money with better planning.

That's good stuff!

I'd skip the whole thing alltogether. Hindsight being 20/20, I'd just buy a Vette and thow a supercharger on it. I'd have saved a crap-load of money that way. Now I have a truck I have to keep, to justify all the cash I've thrown at it. Don't get me wrong, I love my truck. I just wouldn't do it again.

When I get mine, I'm keeping it stock....or close to it. Less headaches for me.

Thanks for all of the input so far. what would you do with 5 thousand dollars in power mods with a 00? Also what If I were just to buy all three stages of the JDM kits. Is that a reliable combo its around 6 thousand for all three stages I could install all of it myself. It seems good on paper and easy you get everything in one package? What rwhp does all three stages put you at?

for 5 thousand i would get a built block. a little more could get you an 8# pulley and chip. eventually just port the eaton.

is the 3 stages from jdm worth the money or can you get more bang for the buck somewhere else. Also what can these stock bottum ends handle anyways?

I'm with Odin. As much as I love the L, since I like the twisties, it is very expensive to take to a road course. Brakes and tires along will put you in the poorhouse. If I had put the money I spent on mods with the invoice price I paid for the L I could have bought a Vette.

Im not really into the twisties I really like drag racing more personally. Isnt a L better than a vette at that?
