L vs. SRT-10 Truck Trend Test
FYI:
There is a Lightning vs. Ram SRT-10 comparison test in the July/August issue of Truck Trend. (It's not yet up on their website.)
The two trucks were tested on the same track on the same day by the same driver. The Dodge edged out the L in every test except braking:
0-60: L=5.1, Ram=4.9
1/4 mile: L=13.6@102.0, Ram=13.3@106.9
Braking 60-0: L=122.9, Ram=124.9
Lateral Acc. g's: L=.86, Ram=.87
600 ft. slalom: L=61.5 mph, Ram=61.9 mph
Lap Time (wet): L=1:13.9, Ram=1:13.4
HP/Torque: L=380/450, Ram=500/525
Axle Ratio: L=3:73, Ram=4:11
Base Curb Wt: L=4,670, Ram=5,000
Price as Tested: L=$33,945, Ram=$45,795
Not much of an edge considering the extra 120 hp, 75 lb/ft tq, and lower rear alxe ratio. Weighs 330 lbs more than an L and costs $11,850 more. Spend less than half the difference in mods and beat it every time. Save the rest to put down on a 2006 L. You know the 2006 numbers HAVE to beat the SRT-10. Corporate bragging rights are at stake here. I'm guessing 550 hp, 625 tq and $40,000.

Bryce,
Good memory; you're correct. The article included a sidebar discussing possible SVT answers to the SRT-10. Among the possibilities listed were utilizing the naturally asperated 6.4 liter V-10 out of the current Shelby Cobra Concept, which has 605 horsepower.
The other engine possibility mentioned was, of course, the one in the Lightning Concept, which is a supercharged, intercooled 5.4 liter V8 producing 500 hp and 500 ft/lb.
Also mentioned is the possibility of switching from the current four-speed automatic tranny to the Tremec T56 six-speed used in the current Mustang Cobra. In the main article, they critisized the L's auto trans for slow shifting, which made it difficult to apply power comming out of corners. A manuel transmission would cure this as would, of course, a better auto trans.

As a matter of fact, there is no way that an SRT can beat the L in anything. I've read it here. It must be true.
That test had to have been rigged by a bunch of anti-Ford magazine editors.
