Mine is starting to make some noise again after 2 weeks. EEEERRRRR!
Took the belt off, cleaned and re-greased the idlers....no change. Took the s/c belt completely off, started the truck, and still made the noise. I only have 8,500 miles on my truck and never owned one since new so mabye my truck is just starting to make normal wear noises and I just was used to it being brand new with no miles, or normal wear noises. If not, I think it might be the alternator, that's the area where the noise was the loudest with the charger belt off.

I have the same exact problem. I replaced the idlers and tensioner with no luck. The noise is driving me insane! As far as replacing the bearings in the alternator, what does this entail? I am rather inexperienced when it comes to these trucks. Thanks, Kyle

I'm thinkin' if it turns out to be the alternator mabye it would be better to replace the OEM with a aftermarket BOSCH or Denso? What do you guys think? Stock is 130amp?....mabye get a stronger one so there's enough headroom for a high powered stereo or something down the road? I'm just going to ride it out for now see if it gets louder or not or just goes away.

Any idea which one of these (if any) is right for our trucks?

Im thinking about going with a direct replacement.

Check your fan, it could be the clutch going out. I had it replaced by Ford and the whirring noise went away. Try spinning the fan by hand, if it feels stiff then your clutch might be going bad. Hope this helps.

Bert.
