Guys with Sir Michaels Roll Pans
#5
I had them do some other paint work also.
2 - endcaps
1 - rollpan w/ weld and finish work around the license plate area
1 - smooth and paint the tailgate strip
2 - bed caps
1 - tailgate cap
He quoted me 600-650.
What did you pay Konig?
What did he do to get them to line up in the back? I have a 1/4 inch gap at the top and a 3/4" gap at the bottom were the end caps meet the pan....
Any help would be great.

Well, I got a decent deal considering what all I had done
1. Painted side steps
2. Painted back window shroud
3. Painted entire tailgate including new handle and strip, fixed 3 small dents in it also
4. Painted front bumper and smoothed plate holes
5. Painted pan and end caps
6. Installed pan portion only
7. Painted + smoothed 3rd brake light
Total... was about 450 bucks.
He used small wooden wedges to get the gap even on both sides...then he attached the bottom corners of the pan to the underside of the truck with brackets he fabed up..... then he shimmed the top and held it down in the middle while he screwed it to the truck....I had to help with that of course to get enough pressure on the pan.
It all lines up great now...the tailgate strip will clear the pan by a hair... its as close as it gets...but works fine, so Im happy

Well, I just spent 30 mintues talking with Sheldon at Sir Mike's..
He gave me a couple of ideas!
First he said try some butyl rubber tape and put it on the top inner part of the endcap right above the bolts and tighten up the bolts. He said the problem was when you tighten the bolts down, the force will cause the bottom of the endcap to come up.
Next, he said try some fast curing epoxy from 3M. It's a 2 tube system that setup up in 5 minutes and is fully cured in 1 hour. He told me if I'm still having problem with the bolts and fitmit that is solution is a permant fix. Since my end caps are painted, he told me to sand down to the fiberglass and do the same on the bedside. Put the epoxy all over and hold in for 5 minutes where the fit perfect and there is your fix. Forever.
So I will give the tape a shot first....
Also, he stated that I'm not the only one calling with questions and complaints.
So I guess we will have to see....

I had tried to use an industrial 3m double sided tape...no go...not even close to holding. If you pre drill the wholes larger than directed then you will get more "play" when tightening them down. Its much easier to make the pan line up with the caps, I tried it the oposit way with zero luck.
I wouldnt epoxy anything.... I dont know about your caps...but mine had to be bolted down completely before they would sit flush with the bed side...so at that point there isnt a use for glue....all it would do is make it impossible to remove if you ever want to take the kit off.
