You'll probably be happier with the Ford. When I went to the product launch meeting for the new F150, they had the frames from the Chevy, Dodge, Ford, and Toyota. The setup was to show how much defletion each frame had. Needles to say the Ford kicked a$$. The Dodge was very good, the Chevy fair, but the Toyota was terrible. It looked like it was built from an erector set. In the test a 160 lb guy leaned on a 16 FT bar attached at the rear wheel location. The front of each frame was solid mounted to the display. When the guy layed accross the bar it measured in inches how much the frame flexed. The Ford was less than 1 inch. The Toyota was over 7 inches. When the guy layed on the bar, he bounced for better than two minutes. They had to switch sides of the frame for mounting from show to show because the frame was staying bent. Switching allowed it to bend back and forth. I wouldn't ever want to own a truck with a frame that weak. I've thought about getting rid of my L for probable the same reasons as you, can't fit the family but need a truck. Thing that bugs me is how much they want to give me for my L. They want to give me like $4 K less than I owe, and I bought mine on Ford's D-plan. Not to mention the $4K in stuff I've added.

Yep, those F250s have a decent aftermarket from what I hear. You have plenty of choices as far as a 4-door truck with some power and potential.
But please don't go from a Lightning to a regular F-150 or Toyota! You'll hate yourself.
Your options:
F-250 PSD
F-350 PSD
HD
SS (better than a Toyota Tacoma!)
Also, assuming you need four doors for a family, what does your wife drive? Unless it's a two-seater, you should be fine with the L! Plus, nothing beats getting picked up from soccer practice by your dad in a Lightning!
