Not very happy....I LOST!!!

I raced a new 2004 Mach 1 last night with a few mods, (chip, underdrive pullies, exhaust & drag radial) & I lost by a fender three times. I will say that it was hot, about 85 degrees @ 10:00 at night but I still think I should have pulled this race off.

Race 1: On the first race I was a little confused on the go and I got behind a car length but I got it back quickly and maybe even pulled out to a 1/2 car length lead but the Mach realed me in the last couple seconds and won by a fender.

Race 2: Pulled out to a 2 length lead but I didn't have anything left on the top & he won by a fender again.

Race 3: I spun, never caught up...lost by 1 1/2.

I noticed that my truck ran good the first time, but after that it didn't run quite as good...probably due to the heat and humidity.

Also, I have some headers and high flow cats on order, this should help put me over the top... right?....Along with some cooler air. I was thinking that the headers should help me out on the top end a little and stop letting these cars real me in.

Give me your opinions on all this guys, I would love to hear it!

That sounds about right. Stock Machs run low to mid 13's. With mods they are mid 12's. You run probably high 12's and the heat didnt help you. How long a race did you run? Since you where on the street, was it a measured quarter? If it was more than a quarter, your chances decrease from there also.

heat & humidty, unless you are bracket racing or getting some practice on launching and the tree it's useless to hit the track in the summer for a "Best ET" attempt.

Get a rematch in Nov-Feb!!!

I kill semi-stock (pullies, catback, etc.- no power adder) GTs, Mach I, and Bullets all the time....and that hauling about 600lbs worth of stereo equipment in the rear.

Yeah, I think the chip and the drag radials really helped him. Plus he was consistent on all 3 runs and after my first run I could feel the heat killing me. You know what the heat does to these trucks!

This is an honest question, not being a smart *** at all. Wouldn't the heat affect the Mach 1 also? Or are Ls affected more by the heat and humidity? If so, why?

Back to back runs just kills the power in our trucks, basically it's like hot lapping at the track. Who knows he could have been spraying a small shot as well. Wait until it's about 40 degrees in November and demand a rematch.

A apten ported blower and dyno tune would allow him to see your tailights all the way down the track. The ported blower really shines in the upper rpms. Right where your needing it.

I noticed you didn't have a phenolic spacer mentioned in your mods. That would be good money spent on these motors since they need cool air and it would close the gap on the Mach 1 a little.

I feel your pain, it sucks to lose by such a small margin.

yes, it does suck to lose not matter how close it is.

Also, I am considering the Apten Blower in the near future.

heat affects everyone.... not just you. Now if you were comparing timeslips from one day to another, then you can blame it on heat. With him running right beside you at the same time, you were both racing in identical conditions....no advantage either way.
