Deja-Vu... all over again.

this is not an old picture from the original buildup, it was taken about 30 minutes ago.

not as fun the second time around I must say.

I'll be going back at it tomorrow to see what is wrong, but at this point it does indeed appear to be ring related. what appears to be large amounts of burnt oil coming out of #5 exhaust port, a little more coming of #6.

I didn't do any organized diagnosis, because I was tired and ready to go home, but messing around waiting on my ride home I got cylinder leak down approaching 80% on #6. will be going back tomorrow to test all cylinders and record results.

bore-scope does not indicate any "burnt" pistons at this time.

bore-scope is not best quality, so unable to see if cylinders are scored or not.

more info tomorrow night.

later,
chris

Sorry about the rings...that was one of the major issues you had during the buildup though wasn't it? As far as like what the gap was supposed to be or something? Good to see that you are atleast feeling good enough to try and figure the problems out though...Good luck!

looking back it seems like I had alot of "major issues" during this buildup!

mostly just me jumping into panic mode before thinking things over clearly. or me not listening when people told me something the first time.

but yes, there were some questions about ring gap and other things. basically, everybody that I talked to gave me different specs for ring gap, piston clearance, rod bolt torque, and a few other things.

not blaming anybody for anything, I hope that didn't sound like that. it's just that it was my first MAJOR performance engine buildup and I wanted everything to be perfect. hard to make things perfect when you are not sure what exactly perfect is.

back to the rings, yes there has been some speculation that the ring end gaps that I used may have been too small for the nitrous use. however this is only speculation at this point as at least as many people have told me that the ring gaps were more than enough for my boost and nitrous levels.

oh well, I'll know a little more tomorrow hopefully.

later,
chris

Chris,
I followed the first build up, step by step, polished piece by polished piece, ceramic coating, painting everything.

I know it is never fun the second time, however I wish you all the lock in the world.
Not many people can build the beast you are planning.

good luck on the fix up, hope it isn't all too bad. Think of it like this, im kinda envious cause i like doing stuff like that but don't have the funds or the time right now.

Just a quick favor, can you take a pic of the back of the cab with it lifted and the front side of the bed with the cab off for me?
