Question Engine Removal?

Iv'e seen several pics of engines removed via cab removal. Is there a way to remove the engine old school (from the top)? I would like to do the work in my garage. I may have trouble with my wife if I buy a lift!

Yup. Now I'm curious why anyone would pull the engine out with the cab off.

engine

you have to undo a BUNCH of crap, especially if you have mods and such to pull the motor. It's a tight fit. Just as easy to remove the cab and pull the motor out because you can get at everything, and not have to worry about scratching or denting anything. No i have no idea if any of this is true, just from reading ont he board.

If someone could post a step by step of what needs to be disconnected to lift the cab, that would be splendid. I have a lift and the abililty to lift the cab.

Ive done it both ways I think pulling the cab is the easier than out the top. The cab can removed in about 45 minutes and gives you total access to everything. Just my .02

I seriously considered pulling the motor out from under the hood this time for several reasons...

but after looking at it for a few minutes, I said screw it and raised the cab.

it may be a little additional work, but it makes everything so much easier.

it's a personal preference thing.

I can't see pulling it out through the hood, some people can't see lifting the cab.

also, alot of folks may not have a lift, so raising the cab is not even an option at times.

later,
chris

Yeah, but look at all the **** you have to strip off to get it out. Those thing would be alot easier to remove if it was out in the open.

Sounds like the voice of experience........

But I think I'll go with the 3rd option

Why let someone else have all the fun? I absolutely love working on my own cars!

Hell yeah

And then you would have no reason to go to the emergency room when you rip off your knuckle

Scars add character, just make sure to wipe all the blood off of the cars and tools before your done.

Mechanix gloves are a good investment.

id say if you have a lift, take the cab off. otherwise its just a pain in the butt, but doable.

I have removed the engine in 4 hrs but it takes about 10 hrs to but back in and drive away.

The Ford service manual say's to remove it through the engine bay. They even call out a special lift tool that attaches to the front alternator mount bolt holes and the top two tranny bolt holes.
