How thick is your rad? 03 L

my rad on my 03 L is about 1.5", on my 99 with supercooling its around 2+", how about other years?

I knew about ford cheaping out on the rear storage bin, door lights but this is getting bad. (btw my 99 has all the above and its a normal xlt not a so called premium vehicle) Not to mention the price of the L went up in 03 above the 02.

Thanks again ford

umm lets say your rad is a double core instead of a tripple core like they used to be, should they be a tripple core on the 03 or did ford change that? (we are supposed to have super cooling on the Lightning)

BTW - Just wondering if my truck is a misbuild or if ford just found that a thicker rad was not required

Mine is March of 04.

Where are you looking to get the count?

I can see down in one corner and it looks like there is room for one more row from looking at the inside of the tanks.

Judging from the outside appearance of the side tanks I would say I have a two row.

My SVT F-150 owners guide calls for 25.5 Quarts......

You forgot to mention the lighter wheels on the 03-04

Ford makes 3 radiator thicknesses that will fit in any 1997-2003/2004 Heritage F-150s. The approximate thicknesses are 1", 1.5", and 2". Supercooling uses 1.5" or 2" depending on the year. 2" were the earliest models and 1.5" replaced them and is standard now. You can easily see the thickness if you look at the shiny aluminum core through a small hole at the rear of the plastic radiator cover side. Don't consider the plastic side tanks. Around 2001, Ford had a lawsuit against them for putting 1" radiators in Supercooling applications. They offered replacement radiators or a check to those in question. Next, they changed their literature and stated the 1.5" was adequate in their opinion. There are a million posts here in the archives about this. Many members got their radiators replaced with 1.5" and 2" without problems. I had a 1" replaced with a 2" in my last truck. The 2" dwarfed the 1" version. My dealer let me replace it myself. Later, I cashed their lousy *** check too. My 2004 L has a 1.5".

I guess I am not sure what the big deal is. Why have something heavier if you don't need it?

I remember when it was happening to the Expy's. Some people got so upset it was amazing. What I can tell you though is, this weekend 102f, freaking hot with 50% humity and the temp gauge did budge from it's normal spot. Didn't matter if it was sitting idleing or doing a 120mph blast.

So don't worry about it, chill (pun intended).

People usually get upset when they pay for something and dont receive it. It's called theft by deception, and Ford got caught.

If you ordered the class 3 tow package on the reg F150's You were supposed to get the supercooling package which consisted of more coils and the 2.02 thickness radiator. They had pulled the same BS on me with my 2000 F150. After showing them Fords specs for for the tow package they replaced it. They said the smaller one would cool just as well but that's not what I payed for. There are numerous threads on this from a few years ago.

I called ford and a tech called hotline and i guess enginering said they changed it to the 1.5" so i guess thats the end of it.

Still think ford should stop cutting things on vehilces - the door lights disappeared on the superduty aswell, hood blankets, etc, etc. yet the price still manages to climb

BTW - I will try not to clog up this forumn with problems like this when there are much more important topics like - whats your favorite color? how old are you? and such important items like that.

I don't think anyone was trying to diminish the relevancy of your topic. I wasn't trying to tell you to search the archives. Lord knows we have enough people here already whose head won't fit in a hat. What I meant was: it was a very popular topic, off hand I didn't have the exact radiator measurements, and part numbers were also available for those that may want the 2" version.

This thread sparked my interest and I went across the street to look at my neighbors 95 5.0 mustang covert. It is only a single row and sure looked about 1 inch.

I was surprised. You could see the extra space on the tanks but nothing there.

I guess these things are so effecient you don't need more. What makes it even harder is that on those extra hot days when your using the AC that condenser is right in front preheating.

I am glad you posted this subject. Thats what this forum is all about.
