? About teflon vs. boost loss

If the teflon was completely stripped from the rotors of the eaton, how much boost would be lost.????

From: Colorado,
What are you getting at?

If it came off on its own it would be laying all over the intercooler and restrict flow for sure.

I had around 20k on my 99 when I went in to change the intercooler and found some laying on top. I suppose some made it all the way threw.

I could only see a few small spots where it was starting to come off.

Somebody out there did a post about having them redone with graphite I think. Could be wrong.

Are you down on boost and suspicious......

Just pop the S/C off and have a look. You can reuse the gaskets.

No, my blower is fine. A friend ordered one from ebay, and when he received it, the teflon had been completely stripped. I was not aware of this, or i would have told him not to install it. He did, and it is not making the boost that did before. I gave him specific instructions on setting the boost acc., he said it was correct. I'm just wondering if you can lose a substantial amount of boost with stripped rotors. thanks???????

wow, I have never seen one COMPLETELY stripped of the teflon.

I would imagine that it could make a noticeable difference in the boost. I suppose it would throw off the rotor-to-rotor and rotor-to-case clearances, allowing boost to "bleed off" or just not be fully produced.

however, I seem to remember Brian from Apten say that the teflon didn't make much of a difference. that they could recoat them if you wanted, but it was expensive and didn't really make a noticeable difference in performance...

I know that the cobra rotors appear to be coated with something different than ours though, graphite or someting black or dark gray.

good luck.

later,
chris

I'm with Chris on this one. Bleeding the boost due to clearance changes.

Chris,

You mean these?

wasnt there some carbon or some other material rotor packs for sale from someone? Maybe thats them instead?

From reading quite a few posts it seems that the teflon coating seems to serve little purpose. Or course the person who decided to teflon coat it has never said anything to use. Always been curious about this, would kinda be nice if a good answer could be had.

The teflon coating makes little diffrence on the rotor pack. Also what was said earlier, if it was your factory rotor pack I would remove the S/C and take the teflon that was resting on top of the inner cooler out.

The graphite rotor packs are from the cobras and they will also work in the Lightning blower.

They put a new crate engine with the blower and everthing on my second 99 because of the rotors peeling and the intercooler leak..they took it apart and I sorta mentioned not wanting it with all that crap ingested...they agreed. Minwe had about 50% of the teflon peeled off..it was an earlier model. When I pulled my 02 blower at about 73000 it had all the teflon still on it..even the edges of the rotors....

I have an 01 blower that all the Teflon came off. The only reason I found it was I pulled the blower to check the intercooler, it was a huge mess. Cleaned up it ran fine. I replaced it anyway.

In 02 the Lightning went to a NEW coating that doesn't come off

And missing coating WILL NOT TAKE THE BOOST AWAY
(I THINK), hehehe ???

Remember the Eaton you ported for me Wes?
There was not 1 spec of teflon left on those Rotors,
and he was running 11's each and everytime out with it,
and running faster and faster right up to the day he did
the Built Motor/KB install. That lost coating surly DID NOT slow him down or take away his boost

Example:
01 Rotors

I suppose so cpeapea

Those 01 Rotors were also using a 8lb Pulley for 10's of K's.

If you look closely, expecially when comparing side by side,
The Older Coating was more of a Black Paint Look,
where as the Newer Design, is a Graphite look AND COLOR

01 (or Older Coating)

02 (or Newer Coating)
