ATTN South Carolina Lightning owners FREE STUFF

We need someone to drop off your truck for a cool-as-sh*t manual shift conversion. I suspect that if enough of us commit (as in actually lay down deposits), we could work it so that yours is free. But at minimum, you would be a hero.

read about it here

You know, Mike, I knew you'd jump on this as soon as I read it. Not for me, though...I love having a (stock) slushbox!

So Tim, are you saying TCI (as shown in the link) can do this? I don't see anything on the PDF file about being able to shift with bottons.

If you need another person to confirm that they will buy this when completed I'm only one but I'm in!

Tony: I don't know.

Illegalspeeds: The transmission stays 100% stock. All that changes is the ability to shift it manually. Full auto mode is retained.

"Allows tunability of ALL transmission shift points, line pressure curve and torque converter clutch operation.
Transmission durability and drivability rivaling that of OEM electronics or older non-electronic transmissions.
ManuTronic feature allows fully manual gear selection when desired, via OEM Ford speed control buttons or a stand-alone push-button control."

"The ManuTronic function allows manual gear selection via the original equipment speed control (cruise control) switches. This feature allows up and down-shifting through all four gears at any time, using the Accel and Coast buttons located on the steering wheel."

ShadowBolt: TCI? PDF? WTF?

We are talking about a company called Baumann that has an auto-to-manual conversion box. It's electronic, not mechanical.

It's mature technology, but some development work has to be done on the Lightning to decouple the tranny from the ECM.

Tim,

It's interesting and about an hour from me in the upstate. I can't say that I'm interested at this time though. Are you really from Goose Creek? Why don't you just ship your truck to Baumann and let them R&D it? I didn't know that Baumann was into performance vehicles, but it's good to know they aren't that far away if I need them. The things you learn about businesses in small towns around you.

Good luck in you quest for the grail.

Did I say that?

I lived in SC from age 5-30 something. I lived in the Northwoods area of Charleston for 2 years or so (just a few miles from Goose Creek).

If someone will step up to the plate I will help pay the prototype cost. I would assume Tim, Daniel, and Cliff will pitch in also?

Charleston is great! King street was a blast (a hazy one at that ). I stayed on James Island and the view was gorgeous!

Now North Charleston is another scene....

I am positively, absolutely, 100%, MF ready.

I was playing around with manual shifting today. Rolling to a stop in first is a whole other experience. And holding out second in a autocross event would be crazy cool.

Heaven on Earth.

I lived in

Charleston

Surfside Beach
Garden City Beach
James Island
Hilton Head

Greer
Charlotte, NC

Moved to SoCal nine years ago. The weather rocks and the car scene is amazing, but nothing beats the Lowcountry of SC.

Now hopefully one of you good ole boys can get your truck up to Pendleton!

Will the Cruise Control still be functional?

If not can we just go with paddle shifters.

I don't mind using my truck, but I doubt I'll be doing any autoX. I'll also help with 175 of my own money, I know its not much, but if you guys can come up with what ever it takes I'll do it.

It would most likely be better to get someone who really wants this mod to get some more money. But if you guys are ok with my small 175 donation then I'll do it.

-Mike

and I'm in Goose Creek, but Charleston sounds so much better.
