Intake

My 2001 is stock except for a JDM silver-bullett cat-back. I was wanting to get an intake but cant decide on which one to go for. Should I go for one lke the JLP or a open element? Also will just the exhaust and intake hurt my truck without a tune or will it need to be tuned since it will be getting more air?

Your stock tune is fine. Actually it's quite fat to begin with IMO. Adding more air will actually be a good thing!

As far as brands go everbody has thier own opinions.

When you approach the 450 level, then it might get a bit more picky as to which one would be best.

I went with the REM intake and just made my own air box / under bumper scoop.

no tune needed ....I went with an open ended 15 inch cone (Air Force One) so I could take advantage of the hole in the fender along with my home made shroud around the filter to help keep out heat...

I prefer and use PSP's Fast Air kit but JLP's kit is great too.

Another PSP FASTair user here. Works fine, I really like it. No offense to any of the tuners great products, but if I were to do it again, I honestly would have just made my own.

But the FASTair is a great product, as is JL's. I've hit that freakin' scoop against so many curbs when parking, and it's still in place, doing fine.
