mine started leaking at about 65K or so miles right where the pulley shaft goes into the pump, got one from murrays and put it in my self..

cant remember how much maybe 150 or so, but no where near 500+..it was quite easy aslo, three bolts if i rember right, at most four and no wierd angles all right there...

Is it leaking from the shaft?

Mine was leaking and I thought I need a new one got under to take it off to get a new one and seen that it was coming from the connection. Replaced the teflon o ring cost a buck fifty.

Yes, where is it leaking from? Many leak from the cheezy clamp on the return line.

Mine went bad at only 200 miles!! I had to take it back twice and finally the dealership just replaced the entire unit under warranty. I was pissed because the second time I took it in (to a different dealership) they told me the only fix was for a replacement, not a quick fix like the first dealership tried to do (leaked worse after the first so called fix).

Oh ya, the dealerships (both I went to) told me that steering pump problems are notorious for F-150 on other Ford vehicles.

Good luck with yours.

Napa Auto parts (and many others like Kragan, AutoZone and Pep Boys) carry the pumps for well under $100.00 exchange. The pump is the same for Lightnings and standard F-150's. Napa even swapped the pulley for me at no charge.

Slightly messy 1 hour job to swap it myself. The high pressure line was the most difficult because there's not much wrench room. If you've swapped the crank pulley, you know that you have to push the high pressure line out of the way. The line is not expensive ($35.00), so I replaced it as well to avoid any leaks at the fittings.
