well the obvious answer is that you need to start with getting it scanned for codes to see why the light came on. you can have this done lots of places, I think autozone does it for free.

is your truck still under warranty?

Disconnect your negative cable for 5 minutes and reconnect.
The light should go away. Have it checked out if the returns.
Mine turns on once every 3 months or so. No big deal.

sorry to hijack this thread but I just got the dreaded SES light yesterday. The codes I'm throwing are P0420 Bank 1 cat. efficieny below limit. Does this mean my high flow cats that i thought were empty are clogged? I also have P0107 showing up.....Map/BP sensor circut low input. Any ideas what this one is caused by?

Sorry, I did a search and found lots of info on the P0107 (thanks Chris). I do still need help with the possible cat problem P0420. I do have the Carsounds high-flow cats. I was sure a few months ago they had come apart and the catalist had been blown out the exhaust pipe.

yep catalyst inefficiency code just means that the downstream 02s are switching just like the upstream sensors. this happens either when the catalytic converters stop working, or sounds like in your case, when they break up and blow out the tailpipes!

you can either replace the cats with new ones, or leave them like they are and have your tuner turn the downstream hegos (called catalyst monitors) off.

hope this helps.

later,
chris

I agree get it scanned, untill you know the codes there is no way of knowing whats wrong. It could be anything from forgetting to put the gas cap on to a sensor somewhere, or a vacuum line unplugged.
