Unhappy Lightning is slightly wounded

On the way home from work last night during a rain storm, I saw that there was a broken down Explorer up ahead in the right lane in front of me. So, I move over into the left lane to avoid it and then after I passed it, I then went to move back over into the right lane which I was originally in. And then.......BAM!!!!! I was so surprised because the road in front of me was empty so how the hell could I have hit someone? Well what I think happened is that right after I passed the disabled Explorer, the guy behind me shot into the right lane instantly and tried to fly by me and I had no idea he was there so my front bumper made an $873.00 mess out of the front and back doors of his 98 Escort "sport". The bang was so loud that I thought the fender was history but when I get out, I see a 1" tall by 2" long section of paint missing off of the bumper right in front of the tire and some red paint which I already got off. There's also red paint on the lip of the rim. I was shocked and happy to see such little damage to my truck. There was no ticket or police report but my insurance is paying the damge. I was the one who hit him and I was wrong to assume he wasn't there so I guess that's why I'm responsible BUT if he wasn't in such a damn hurry, I would have had time to realize he was there.

Hey dont worry man, stuff like that happens all the time. I almost did the same thing to a kid in a S2000. It seemed like he wanted to race someone but when I got next to him he wouldnt even look at me. He got stuck behind a slow-moving SUV in the middle lane and I was in the left. I passed the SUV and changed into the middle lane and about to go into the right lane when I saw the front of his car barely sticking out of my blind spot. Im sure if it was ranning the results might have been the same as yours.

Davie highways

Yeah, the people around Davie that travel on 595, 75, Turnpike, and 95 are always in a big time hurry. I admit, I have been guilty of it myself, but never in a rain storm. Glad to hear it was minor damage. It could have been alot worse!

Where in Davie do you live? I live off University and Nova Drive. by the Tower Shops on the golf course. I haven't been to the car show in a while.

No the escort wasn't nearly as fast as I made it sound but I'm in a Lightning in the rain so I am keeping my speed somewhat slow while this guy in his 130 hp escort doesn't have the power enough to need to be cautious so it seemed like he was flying at 45 while I was doin 25-30. I'm still upset about my truck and the fact that this is the first time in my ten years of driving that I actually hit someone. I always thought I'd be the one who got hit. I live in west Davie over by Muvico. Whenever I can get off work on a Friday, I'll swing on over by Tower Shops.

Sorry to hear about your L but it could have been worse and both of you are ok. Although I did not go to Towers today I am not sure if I know you guys that live in Davie. I live in South Kendall near Metro Zoo and make the trip up there almost every Friday and know most of the regular guys. Well, hope to see you all there sometime.

if there are 1 or 2 lanes of raffic going in one direction it is illegal to pass on the left.
However if there are 3 or more lanes going in one direction it is perfectly legal to pass on the left.

I tried to pass on the left once, but my trackson bars got in the way.

Thanks to you all. I had the truck up on a lift today and was inspecting all of the bumper mounting points on the frame and the front part of the frame itself and can't find the slightest hint of damage. I think it may have just felt worse than it actually was. I also buffed the other guy's paint off the bumper and rim so now the ONLY damage there is-is as small section of paint (maybe 3/4" tall by 1" long) missing. I think I'm just gonna touch it up and forget about it. Now it's time I get over it and put on that pulley/chip I keep thinking about.
