My 01L stock trans makes a single loud click on acceleration, mostly in first gear but sometimes second and even third. Also it's not consistantly at the same RPM.

Trans still drives and shifts fine, no trash in the fluid or on the magnent.

Sounds like a sharp tap on the side of the trans. I was thinking maybe a bad solinoid but have no idea where or what to look for.

Searched the forums and found nothing similar.

Already took the drive shaft out and checked the u-joints, their ok.

Anybody have any ideas?

That sure sounds strange, being an '01 its probably not under warranty anymore is it? Either way I would still have the dealer look at it, it might be something they will fix or replace due to some type of defect.

 

Although most times a "few months or a few miles" out of warranty and a few complaints will get you some consideration from a dealer or from Ford, good luck on getting anything after you have exactly 36 months or 36,000.1 miles on the clock on a 2001 4R100.
Is it a 5X or a 1J? (look at the ID tag on the drivers side)
