Test drove an L
I was out looking and I found a Red 01 L w/20k on the odo, and they were asking almost 27k at the dealer. Way too much IMO. And I really don't want Red. I really want Black, DSG, or Dark Blue. So he tells me he could look at the auctions for me. I said go for it. He asked me what I was looking for. I told him an 01+, and I didn't want to pay more than 25K. He then told me if I bought an 03-04 I was looking at 35k.
WTF? Stupid dealers trying to make a *** load of money off me.
I'm going to go look at a Black 2003 L with less than 10k on the odo. They are asking 27.5k. What price should you go for with that truck?
Anyway I test drove the red truck. It had skinny *** tires on it. 265's. I really couldn't take off too fast. But once I got moving it was fun! And, the blower whine was awesome!!!! I gotta get one now!

Maybe where you live the prices of these things are really high? Most of us with '04 Ls got them under $30k brand new. An '03 with <10k miles should be $24-25k max. Even then, it had better be _perfect_. You can get an '04 leftover brand new for $27-28k if you can get an X-plan deal.
Now once all the new '04s are gone, prices will creep back up slightly on the used ones. But its so cheap to finance a new truck, that used prices are very low, even for nice, clean, low mileage trucks.
$27.5k is way, way too high.

Prices in CA tend to be considerably higher than elsewhere. I paid $21K for my 2000 with 24K on it and all of my contacts, dealership and elsewhere, tell me that I stole it. I think it might have something to do with the mild winters, lack of road salt, etc. that keeps resale higher out here.
