Base your tire pressure on your tire wear, or on whats comfortable. As a daily driver 40 would be a bit rough.

I recently changed all four of my tires, and I have two extras just in case. At the shop they pumped it up to I think aroun 32psi but it just feels too soft so I put them up to around 40psi.
Before I changed the tires I could see the threads/cord and had to put it to 44psi and in less then a day it would be in the mid 35s. That's what nails and screws all over the place do to your tire! lol
Fowl - I think I may have crossed you the other day. Are there now two DSG and also two Silvers?

I went with Nitto-555 Extreme ZR's instead of F1's. I think i'm running 35psi all around, they seem to be kinda hard though. My 02 has the sticker and it says 32psi all around. So if it's good enough for the F1's it'll do for my Nitto's. So I may drop them down to 32 and see how they feel.

Never had any alignment problems with my L or the Ranger. Almost very vehicle I've owned for the past 40 years, I've run higher tire pressure than most - and never had any alignment problems I felt were due to that. I got my Ranger used with about 60k on it - and I put 60k on it and I never saw any unusual tire wear anywhere on any of the four tires - and I never rotated them either. In fact - I've never rotated tires on any vehicle I've had and I've never had any unusual tire wear - at least up to 40k +. I don't think I've even run a set of tires for over 60k(usually changed about 40k in the past) - so I couldn't say what would happen after that. Every time I've had new tires put on, the wear on them was pretty even( not especially crowned or anything like that) and I always had an alignment job done at the same time - but I really don't know if it was needed - just thought as I was getting new tires and balanced, it was good practice to do. Got the 4WD fixed on the Ranger last summer and they aligned the front end then with about 120k on it - and it's on it's second set of Firestones and they still look good. One thing I do regulary; every two weeks I check tire pressure - and I've found usually one or two tires is down 2-3 lbs - and I pump it back up.
