Have you ever seen a truck run those kinds of speeds at any open road events? I'm just trying to quantify how far of a reach your target speeds are in the nutjob open road racing community.

One of these days I'm going to come out to a Nevada event and run with you. I'll be the black truck in the granny class.

Sounds fun Stan, keep working on the aerodynamics for stability and ways to shave drag. Have you experimented with wydopnthrtl suggestion ?

Stan,

Would you consider selling an aero kit or something like it?

My truck is getting to the point where I could use some better stability while on my high-speed runs.

Thanks,
Tony

I did that over 2 years ago.BUT you would be supriced to know that if you remove the whole piece of rubber you actually let air INTO the compartment.need to just remove the center 18 inches.Stan

I could see that..? The center is the dead spot and the outter edges are flowing air down past the exhaust. If the grill was blocked off enough the high pressure areas at the fenders will feed that low pressure on the sides of the motor.

Stan if you don't mind me asking.. Have you proven this on a F150?

Also, have you found an optimal hood height at the rear?

Rich

Yes!I have. The funny thing is that up untill about 60-70 it is nuetral, than past that it goesdown into the engine compartment. The why I proved this is by using yarn and tape all over the front of the truck.I know it is crued but it does work and that is what I am interested in.Stan

Funny you mention it.. That's exactly what I'm doing next week. Taping yarn to the cowl areas.

Have you found and optimal hood height?

Actually, even though the Z06 has more HP than the stock Vette it has a lower top end speed by a couple MPH, 172, and it is because the ZO6 is a FRC(fixed roof coupe)/hardtop, and the base Vette is a targa top coupe. The coupe has the glass that extends to the back, the aerodynamics of the coupe are that little bit better than the hardtop, that the coupe does have a higher top speed, 176. It is because of the abroubt(sp) end of the roofline/trunk that air doesn't flow as well and gets restricted in the front airdam area of the car.

I thought the difference in speed was due to gearing

---------LS1/MM6----LS6/M12
1st Gear--2.66:1------2.97:1
2nd Gear-1.78:1------2.07:1
3rd Gear-1.30:1-------1.43:1
4th Gear-1.00:1-------1.00:1
5th Gear-0.74:1-------0.84:1
6th Gear-0.50:1-------0.56:1
Reverse--2.90:1-------3.28:1

the final drive ratio in both is 3.42.

althought there is a little difference in the 5th gear it is not enough to make the difference in top speed.

sorry to get off topic on this post.

i have been 160 in a zp6 vette on the turnpike but then i lost my nerve.....

shouldnt the lightning be a little lowe to the ground, seem those things under the bumper would slow it down... kinda like a plow hitting snow or something.

good luck in your quest.
