Rear window gasket.

Today I noticed my rear window gasket that is between the black plastic trim piece and the cab is pushed in. Are the 03-04 gaskets better? How much will it cost to be fixed? And will it leak? Thank you!

It shouldn't cost anything to replace it if your truck is under warrenty. I replaced mine with the updated seal when I also installed a solid back window. I had to order the whole trim assembly. It was a piece of cake to do. It shouldn't take more than a few hours.

Is it something I can do myself? Does it glue in? Do I have to take out the interior?

Yes you can do it yourself. If I remember correctly you need to take off the coat hanger hooks with a phillips. Next remove the cap that covers the top mounting point of the seat belts. It should pry up with your fingers. Next remove the trim pieces underneath the seat belts. You can remove the headliner but you will have to remove the upper console. I just left mine in a was really careful not to bend the headliner too much. There are 8 or 10 nuts I believe that hold the trim in place. Remove the nuts and you should be able to pop the trim out. Be careful not to let it fall and scratch your truck. I called my Ford dealership and was told that you could not purchase the new seal. I ordered the whole trim piece from Ford. List price is $166.70. If you look the old seal is glued on around the window trim. The new seal actually has a channel that the window trim slips into. Once you pop the new trim in just reinstall the nuts. DO NOT tighten them too much. You will pull the studs out of the trim. Once they are tightened reassemble the interior. Not hard at all.

Yes the new seal fits the trim like a glove. Make a C shape with your left hand and wrap it around your right forearm. That's how the new seal fits the trim.

Standard warranty or ESP? I can't imagine how a leaking cab wouldn't be a warranty issue.

My rear window gasket was covered under warranty. The updated gasket is much nicer.

Is there a way to pull JUST the plastic part, in order to smooth and paint? Or do i need to remove the interior to drop out the entire window glass assy.? If so, how do i seal it all back up watertight?

No you can't just pull out the trim without disassembling the interior. You do not have to pull the window out to smooth and paint the trim. The trim is bolt to the frame for the back window. Also, you can't just order the seal. You have to order the whole trim piece. I used the same trim from my L when I put the solid window in my truck. If you do a search on fordpartsonline you can find the trim assembly. The cost on the website is $125.03.

It was ESP. But maybe my problem wasn't the gasket. My cab wasn't leaking but the weather sealing around the rear window came up so I couldn't open and close it all the way.

Edit: My gasket however around the whole rear window has begun to fall into the inside of the plastic part. I cant really descibe it any better then that.

As anyone had a proble with the 'center console' on the bench seat. On mine the 'suede' is coming un-attached from the plastic part on the front of it. I would be upset but I plan to do the expy mod.
