There is no such thing. The only legal replacements in CA are the OEM converters.

No legal aftermarket cats are legal according to CHP
with the new Ca new about smog here, if you get caught with a aftermarket cat you can be fine big time.
my buddy got caught with a modified cat and got fine $3,000 plus going to court to explain himself why he did it.......kinda dumb but they just want to make you look dumber by showing up to court and explain that to eveyone........

Actually, aftermarket converters are legal in California on 93-earlier OBD1 vehicles, but Tim is correct, none are legal on OBDII vehicles such as our trucks. Only the factory setup is legal.

and this off the Random Technology website (a high flow cat manufacturer):

"This design, which meets Federal EPA and California ARB requirements, enables virtually any vehicle with a properly tuned engine to meet emissions standards with little, if any power loss (compared to an exhaust with no catalytic converter). Please note that no aftermarket catalytic converters are legal for installation in California on OBD II vehicles (some 1994 & 1995, and all 1996 and later vehicles)."

I asked the California Highway patrols and they told me that they look for the C.A.R.B. badge on all aftermarket exhaust parts, if if does not have one then you will get a ticket. If it has a C.A.R.B. has a badge but cost your exhaust to be more than 92db loud, you get a ticket for modified exhaust......

Screwed either way............lol

there are two reasons why i won't move to cali,

all those smog laws for cars (while the intention is good, they are annoying)

crappy 91 octane gas

otherwise it is a great state, a nice place to visit.

funny though that socal is one of the meccas for hot rodding.

Pretty lame reasons. Neither one has any meaningful impact on my life. There are LOTS of better reasons not to move here.

On the other hand, about half of the performance manufacturers in the country are near me. I have about a half-dozen road racing venues within 100 miles. The motorcycling is the best anywhere. More car clubs and events than you can shake a stick at.

A car nut can keep busy every single weekend. Just tune for 91 octane and don't try to mess with the cats.
