Question Fuel economy? HOW?

First, let me say Happy Mother's day to all you Mother's out there. My question is about fuel economy. What can I do to get better fuel economy from my L? I am from California, presently working in Wyoming. I have heard that the cheap gas is $2.50,
so I would guess that the premium/91 octane gas is close to $3.00. What mods will milk the least fuel from my tank? I want to be prepared for when I return home. ANY help will be greatly appreciated.

THANK YOU!

DOOM

Kimo ain't lying.

My truck gets about 250 miles to a tank, on a good week.

I try my damndest to stay out of the boost, but it's impossible.

I look at it this way, it makes me happy to drive a Lightning, and if i gotta pay the price, so be it...

It's cheaper than a shrink.

91 is about $2.80 up here right now. I think Wyoming is a bit cheaper, maybe 10-15 cents. Where in Wyoming you heading to?

If you're basically stock and have a chip (or want to pay what a good chip will cost which will buy allot of gas) you can get an 89 octane tune, which, around metro Atlanta 89 oct. is 10cents a gallon cheaper than 93. You will loose a little performance though as the tune is basically retarding the timing some. I have an 89 oct. tune on one side of my chip and before I increased my boost I used that side often in "freeway" driving and just "burning up" gas. Never a problem or any sign of det. My tuner, Jerry Woblowski swears by it!
Otherwise, your only alternative to better mileage is with the right foot!

I just filled up and it was $1.96/gallon in Lansing Michigan. (that's 87 octane in the jeep)

Another thing you could do is take the supercharger belt off. With our 8.5/1 compression and the s/c belt off, you'll get good gasmileage

I did everything you would think would kill my gas millage

Built motor
bigger valves in the heads
cams
50# injectors
adjustable fuel pressure regulator
bigger fuel pumps
KB
8# lower
3.2 inch upper
Chip
Filter

I thought it would kill my millage, but if I drive easy I get right at 20mpg

I feel the way Ford tunes our trucks, there is room for better fuel econemy with a chip and filter. When I was closer to stock- 2# lower chip and filter I went from 14-15 mpg to 17 mpg

Also a electric fan can help improve your fuel millage

ok, i lied. it is $2.49 here and I had my girlfriend ask her parents what it was in Sheridan, WY. $2.09 for reg, so more than likely is $2.29 for 91. Hope this helps.

One day I'll get to live in Michigan and buy $1.96 per gallon gas.

I am working in Casper, WY. I should be back in California just in time for the big summer price hike. Yeah! Someone needs to devise a program to run four cylinders only. Anywho, I may try taking the blower belt off, but then why the hell would I want to drive it then. Maybe invest in a scooter and add a trailer for groceries. Or inventthe ole Hydrogen engine. Seriously, I'll try e-fan, water pump, chip, and filter. I suppose I could get a higher gear ratio in the rear. But again, how fun would that be?

Thank you all,

DOOM

In the hot rodding world, fun and thick wallets don't usually coincide.

Little things you can do..

fully synthetic oil, over inflate the tires, tonou cover w/tailgate up, jack the rear of the hood about 3/8", AC off windows mostly up, e-fan install, no boost, and the biggest factor has to be your driving technique. No heavy throttle and drive easy enough so as not to waste all that energy in braking.
I've avg as high as 18.8mpg when it was mostly stock. With my current mods I tend to avg 16.5-17.0

There is always the "other car" mod that some of us do.

Rich

Filled up the wife's lawnmower (Lancer) the other day in Conway, 1.899 for regular. It's 2.129 where I live (28 miles away).
