3 Valve head/ Will it work?

I was watching TV yesterday and saw the commercial on the new Expedition with the 5.4 three valve head. So i figured I would look on here for threads about it and I pull up nothing.

Is this possible for us to switch the three valve head to the L? ANd if possible would there be noticable gains with cams, and P&P?

What do you think?

No it wouldn't work. Where would you find an intake for 3 valve heads??

I didn't know the intake was different. What is different about the intake runners, that would allow the supercharger intake to mount to the heads. Different bolt pattern? Clearance problems?

The intake ports are a different shape and in a different location.

The issues with using a 3V head are many. The biggest aren't package related, they are electronics. The 3V heads have variable cam timing components which must be controlled by the PCM. The L PCMs don't have that software.

Thank you for the reply, I believe I understand now. I wish I could do a little more with the heads on these trucks. I know with the mustang that the heads were the key to power with the mod motor. Thanks

You can! You may want 4V heads. They'll make the power you want and the PCM will handle them just fine. JDM has a 4V set up coming out.

The alternative is 2V heads ported with larger cams...

there are 2v heads making all the power you can handle.

JLP, PSP, CHARLIE, and a who host of others!
