V10 In Lightning

Pretend there was an intake for the V10. Why wouldn't you put a V10 in a Lightning?

I started this tread 2 years ago.

Apparently everyone is afraid of an extra 100lbs over the already nose heavy V8 Lightning. Don't worry I said, I'll use an aluminum block. More excuses (intake) and the thread was dropped.

You can put a V10 in a Lightning. It's not a big deal at all. There is plenty of room forward for the extra motor if you put the fans in front of the radiator. I have been wondering why nobody has done this yet myself. I'd love to build one for someone.

My first issue is who supports it, I'm not a mechanic and even if I were the cost to built and maintain a one off custom motor would be very expensive, If I toss a rod now I can pick up the phone and order a motor from a dozen different builders, with that said I do think it would be very a cool set up.

I think this would be a killer project....things I would worry about though.

Ignition for a 10 cylinder.....cams for a 10 cylinder (personally I would want billets) but come to think of it you could use stock cams with a turbo setup
Induction could be any manifold as long as a turbo or turbos were plumbed to it.
3 valve heads

Dale

PS....Hey Steve is it time to step it up a notch ??

Crank flex may be an issue. Whipple has a blower setup for the V10. Turbo's would be fun. Talk about torque.

If you search the old posts I found a mud racer guy that did this SC V10 project about 4 years ago.

IIRC he used a KB and it's was no big deal all, the parts were readily available even back then.

Probably just the expense and custom parts involved would the biggest two reasons nobody does it.

I know its a Dodge but...

You can order a crate Viper motor. All aluminium and weighs less than our V8s. Blower kits are now out for these motors.

I think it would make a really nice bastard and over 600lbs less than the SRT-10 with the lighter motor.

REd

Ps. I have my triple layer flame suit on for this one.

HI!... The crank is very weak in the v-10 and is known for breaking at higher HP #'s. I was going to build up a v-10 a few years ago to put in mu F-150 but after seeing the crank and talking to a few buddies that work at FORD's here in WINDSOR that are in the foundry and the assembly line I scrapped the idea.
