lightning insurance
Hey guys, i am located in central illinois and was wondering what insurance would cost me on a lightning if i bought one. Im in the process of saving and im 17 yo. Of course i would have it under my dad's name though. i was wondering if anybody could give me an idea of how expensive it is? My brother has a 2000 L and pays 600 every 6 months in st. louis and he is 24 and on his own. He also said they dont consider this as a sports truck its just a regular truck and they go by the number of cylinders...any body have opinions? thanks

Most insurance companies will know it is a Lightning and you'll pay a little more premium than say and F150 4x4, but it shouldn't be a ton more. It may be a little cheaper than a regular sports car, such as a Camaro Z28 or Mustang GT. Definitely reap the benefits of having it on your parents plan as long as you can or they allow. I was just over 25 when I got my L, and married, and it is about 250-275 per 6 months on a 3 car plan with it listed as not being a daily driver and low miles per yr. my 94Z28 on the other hand was much more when I was under 25... i had it from 18 yrs old through about 25, and it seems like that was more around 100 bucks a month with a few tickets.
good luck and don't get yourself killed with an L. it is a lot of power and speed for your age, i know b/c i was there a few years ago with a fast car and could not keep my foot out of it and i was what i would call one of the more mature teenagers but horsepower is like a bad drug

I pay right at $400 every six months through Progressive. That includes a multiple car discount for my Ranger daily driver. I am 28 years old with a very clean driving record and live in central Indiana. In my opinion a 17 year old person is not mature enough to own a vehicle with this much power, but that's just my opinion. I would guess on your own you would be looking at $800-1000 every six months with a decent record. On your parents insurance, probably around $500-600

When I first bought the L, I had it under my parents and it was only $700/yr.... so it doubled when it went in my name.
