From what I understand the '97 was slightly quicker than the '99 Cobra.

The real shame for Cobra owners is that none of them makes their rated power, from 96 thru 99. Cobra owners are making their feelings known to Ford, as well they should.
It's a fantastic engine, the DOHC, with it's 6-bolt mains, fractured connecting rods, etc., etc. It's capable of withstanding 500 hp levels and perhaps more, turning very high rpms. I'm on my third DOHC, and love the engine.
As far as which one is quicker, most Cobra's we've seen in good weather run about 14.1 or so, and most Lightings in decent weather run 14.2, so it's a real toss-up, and will be up to the driver, IMHO.
