I own a Ford F-150 but I am honest in saying that if GM matched Ford mod for mod on their 350 powered Silverados the Lightnings would be outmatched.I mean the 350 puts out more HP stock all you have to do is add the math.

anyone who has built a hi-pro vehicle, and covered all bases knows, there is a huge difference in a factory built "lightning" and a truck with a blower slapped on it. these guys don't change the pistons, or use a different tranny. i can guarantee i thing, bring it in for warranty work on the drive train, with an aftermarket blower, and try to get a freebee.

I still think the Lightning could run with an equally modded 5.3. From what I have seen the Triton engines reach their maximum torque and horse quicker than the ls1 engines do, so i think acceleration from 0 -60 would still be close if not in the Lightnings favor. After that I do think the Lightning would be in trouble, because that is where the ls1 engines seem to shine.

Let us not forget that many people believe that Ford has underrated the output of the Lightning engines. So maybe the we would not be as outmatched as one might think.

I had a 5.3 silverado before i got my lightning. the two dont compare, steering, braking, suspension, ect
but! i have to say my silverado was snappier,it seems the supercharger takes power away while in negative boost.i am really not a fan of the new triton engines. when you drive the lightnings, you can tell the supercharger is doing all the work.the chevy is got much greater throttle response and feels more like BRUTE horsepower.and i dont care about what any of you believe, i know that stock for stock the vortec motor would mop up a stock 5.4 triton.
if you compare siverado for xlt ,the chev has more comfortable interir drives better and is an all around better truck.this is just my opinion i dont want any bombs planted in my mailbox its just opinion.in ending i believe that stock ford 5.4 gets low 16s high 15.s i know my 5.3 vortec was at 15.1 stock so that is a big difference. i feel that a whipple would affect the vortec in the same way the eaton affects the ford resulting in an overall much quicker time for the chev. i know the lightning would still be a much better truck overall but i beleive the chev would probaly beat it stock for stock w/ a whipple nothing else.
i love my lightning and wouldnt trade it for any chevy but im just stating my opinion.

Cool

With all that information, I'm surprised you didn't buy a Chevy and put a Whipple on it. What mods would you make to the transmission to keep it from disintegrating? The Lightning is undoubtably the most complete performance oriented truck ever produced. We could play "what if" til the cows come home, but the Lightning does not need to be defended in this forum. My $.02.

i have a 3ton truck that will kick my lightnings' a$$, with power and speed, and everytime i drive it, i can't wait to get back into my lightning. even though i have modified every aspect of it, to try to handle it's power and weight, it ain't the same. but the good thing about having other vehicles to drive, is you can appreciate the "L"'s virtues every time you swap out your rides.

BOY,
next time ill just shut up, i should know better than talking about a chevy on a lightning board. i am just a honest guy and like to look in all aspects.i do realize however that lightnings are the best truck ever built! this is why one is parked in my driveway.

hey bad,

nothing wrong with the chevy truck, if they were cheaper than fords, i'd consider them. somebody is buying them (a lot of them), and if the silverado ss came out, and the lightning didn't, guess who'd be wearing a bowtie

The reason that the Chevy feels stronger as compared to the Lightning when the supercharger is off boost is a simple matter of compression ratio - 8.5:1 in the Lightning, 10.0:1 in the Vortec. CR gives you that snappier throttle response and overall "lunge." Tie that in with GM's propensity for tuning in a LOT of tip-in throttle response to make it feel like you're really moving, and there you have it.

BTW, the new 5.4s (99+) are definitely equal to the 5.3s. The older 5.4s aren't.

Later!

it takes more than a juced 6.0 to make me buy one ,he was right the L is an all around better truck, but if chevy did the same mods i think id have to bout in the ford for an "SS" 390HP no blower. put a whipple on that and it would be cause for 11s or even 10s if you could hook up. imagine that??? i dont think it should be legal!!!!!
