i read an article a year ago about running some old mopars and correcting hp to the modern method. they also corrected for elevation. the wedges and hemi's took a big hit,the small 4cyl turbo cars, omni, charger, took a much smaller hit, but still were affected in a negative way by the elevation. jeff did say "minimized" the affect,but 4000ft is always going to worse than sea level, no matter what ya brung

 

Dave, that's because the truck making 8 PSI in Gulfport is going to be making 6 PSI in Denver, all things being equal. BUT if both of their gauges read 8 PSI, then they're both running 8 PSI of positive pressure over where the boost gauge is calibrated for 0 (typically sea level).

The boost gauge doesn't correct for altitude.

I think I was kinda vague in my original post. Sorry.

 

I didn't say the supercharger would take as big of hit from the hight altitude, as a NA would.
(from previous example)
Natural Asp: 86.6% of sea level pressure
Supercharger: 91.3% of Supercharger sea level pressure
Its a relative reading, it is 8 (ie) psi higher than ambiant, that is how boost is rate, more over, it is the definition of boost.
I will look into the closed/open issue, I believe that my analogue still holds.

High altitude cars with superchargers such as Grand Prix GTP and Supercoupes can and do run smaller pulleys, than flat landers for drag racing. (Not from the factory, people put them on their cars)

 

Depends on the gauge you use, most are open to the enviroment, and will show the **Correct** reletive pressure difference , ie Boost. A sealed gauge would show pressure difference as you said, from zero psi, so it would read 14.69 psi at zero altitude, with no boost.

Yeah, my original message was worded pretty badly. What I meant to say was that if Christy's truck's boost gauge reads 8 PSI in Denver, then her truck is getting the same exact amount of air into the engine as a truck at sea-level whose boost gauge is reading 8 PSI. She brings the truck down to sea level and the thing may generate 10 PSI.

By what I had written in my original, where I only mentioned lbs of boost and nothing about a GAUGE, your analogy/explanation was dead-on.

Sorry for the confusion. I know what I was THINKING and it's not what I ended up TYPING. :-/

i'll have to get a sealed gauge. wont go any faster, but sure could impress your friends with those high readings. i'm about 10ft below sea level, so look out!

What the heck is going on with these times? I took my 99 Lightning (bone stock) to Bandimere last summer and the best I could do was 13.99 @ 93 & change. Is anyone embellishing their times or is my truck a piece of junk?

If you running a 13.9 dont complain that is a awesome time.93mph is not so good. you gotta be doing something wrong. try holding second gear manually a little bit it really makes a difference.
