Post Door Remote

Does anyone know if there is any way to make the door remote work with the engine running? It sucks to leave the doors unlocked when warming the truck up on those sub-zero days. Scott

Hey SCOTTODOG
Yep. Just go out and buy a remote vehicle start they now have them with 15 functions. You can start/stop,lock/unlock, raise/lower windows and even lift the lid on the pick-up box. That is the new feature that I have added to my Lightning. You can also tie in your stereo and sub woofer. Got any ideas for some more features please list them.

I beleive my owners manual says that a remote starter can't be installed.

Scottodog,

The electrical systems on the Lightning "go to sleep" after about 30 minutes of non-use. This makes installing an aftermarket alarm system difficult. Your alarm system installer should know who to call to find out what to do. Mine mentioned calling about some additional resistors or something to make things work correctly. There were no additional charges, so they cannot be too complicated.

Good Luck!

The owners manual does not tell you that you can add a chip and back in April and May the thought was that there was never going to be a way around the stock configuration. As you know that is not true today. Same as with the other items. As I posted in another thread about (PATs) there are way around all of these systems. It just takes a little research and commitment.

Scottodog.

Remote start is the way to go. 5-10 minutes before I leave every morning, I fire up the "L". By the time I get out there, all warmed up and ready to go. Everything stays locked and secure but running.

Kind of a cool toy, too.

Idling that long in your climate is a waste of gas and contaminates your oil faster. It's better to get in and go and take it easy on the go-pedal for a few miles. (I know thats hard to do!)

My 2 cents.

Thanks I've got a remote starter on my Suburban but thought it couldn't be put on my Lightning. Looks like I'll be getting another remote starter. Scott

I think the option of wasting a little fuel or damaging an engine by jumping in and immediately driving a cold engine is a no-brainer.

Just my .02...

Thumbs up

I have personally installed a car starter on my L... no big deal, and it works like a champ. Viper makes a $30.00 unit to get around the coded keys that can be picked up from any Circuit City.

Anyone wanting more info email me @ bbeckett@cinci.rr.com
