Exclamation Bassani System Installed

Well guys and gals, wrapped up the install and she purrs like a kitten. The best way to describe it so far is a true storm...Lightning and Thunder that is.

If anybody needs any help, believe me...I've had my hands in it for the past two days. Wouldn't have been so bad except for the cross thread on one of the header bolts and a few more trips to Sears to replace some broken tools. I had to get a tap and die to rethread the 8mm header bolt hole and had to pick up a few swivels. I would highly recommend having a few 1/4" drive swivels on hand...and if you can find a 5/16" - 12 point swivel...it would be very helpful as well. Also, a rachet drive wrench may come in handy.

I'm looking at their h/x pipe. Did you install that part also? What I'm curious about is if it has hookups for all 4 hego's (oxygen sensors)?

BTW, 5/16" is also 8mm <g>

Yes. The high flow cat pipes have all 4 spots for the oxygen sensor hook ups. The x pipe is a seperate (small) piece that comes with the cat-pipes. Installed everything.

I kind of hope that not to many L owners go with the full bassani kit...I like being different. But then of course most of the Lightning owners would fall in the same category of being different. There's not too many like us, wouldn't you say fellas.

99lightning,
How bad of a job was installing the full system? Were you able to install it without scratching things up on the truck getting the headers in?
I am considering buying the system if i ever hear back from sal but am concerned about getting the headers in there, looks like a tight fit to me. Thanks Brian

99L,
I too will be doing this soon but I will most likely pay to have them installed. Can you give me a rough estimate of how long it took to do? Did you have to cut the shock thread? Any gotchas other than the tools you mentioned? Thanks much!

(P.S. How do I get to be a "Member" as opposed to a "New Member" ?)

Brian - not too bad. things are slightly tight on the header install...but really not as bad as I had thought. No scratches except for my poor hands...had to tape them up a few times.

bobb - I had everything (stock) off in a matter of 2 hrs. Helps if you have air compressor and air rachet, etc. I'd say the biggest help in the tacking off would have to be removing the stock stud bolts. The headers took roughly 2 - 3 hrs. and then the cat-pipes, x-pipe, mufflers, and tips probably took me another 2 hrs. Only if I were doing it again could I probably get in done in a full day. But I would definitely set aside 2 days for things like, tool runs, a few deep breaths, lunch, aspirin, band-aids, a little rest in between.

I had posted an earlier question about the passenger side shock mount...I went ahead and installed the driverside header first, in hopes not to have to cut the shock stud. I would advise against it. When I got around to the passenger side I was able to get the header in but there was only a couple of cm clearence and I decided to go ahead and cut it anyway. (really no big deal) I had shopped around for a cutting wheel, but ended up using a plain ole' hacksaw. (no problem)

I'm glad I did the job myself...very rewarding and I know my Blitzen a little better after spending some quality time with her.

Why is it required to remove the mannifold studs prior to installing the headers? Seems to me that it would be much easier to install w/ studs not bolts.

  • Stang58 - the stock bolts are to long in that the angle of some of the tubes would be in the way.

Have your image posted someplace on the web. Then put in the img tag which is

bracket-img-bracket
then put in URL right after that( no spaces) then follow it with
bracket-img-/-bracket

I found the only way to post correctly is to use capital letters for the [IMG].

If I use lower case they won't work correctly. Let me see if this works.

It should be typed like the example below:

no spaces, and all caps for IMG.

99 lightning, i am thinking of getting that done. how much was the full system ? how loud is it on a scale of 1-10? and did it hurt the horsepower or torque or did it gain or is it bout the same, all this could help alot in my descision. oh yea does the exhaust tips still come out of the side like stock and how do the tips look, (stainless)? thanks
