Whooping sound in intake tract

Hey Guys it bee a while since I have posted,

I have a problem with my L. It runs great but when it is idling and until about a 1000 rpm's I hear a whooping sound in the intake tract. Its hard to describle it, it is not constant it come and go. The truck runs fine otherwise. But I know that this sound should not be ther. It realy sounds like someone who has a whooping caugh that hollow like sound, really weird If someone has ever had this problem please help me to solve it, HELP

Sounds like the fairly common IAC valve. Its the little solenoid like valve mounted to your plenum. You can either replace it (I think they are like 60 bucks) or take it off, and clean it with some brake cleaner. Easy to fix!

I pulled this pic from Rob02's lightning gallary. (hope you don't mind bud!)

Its very easy. Two small bolt, I believe 7 or 8 mm, and one connection. Just keep the gasket clean, or get a new one, and I usually put a little grease back on the gasket to help seal it. Pull the IAC off. Spray with a little brake or electric motor cleaner, work shuttle valve back and forth. Spray again, wipe down any residue, and reinstall. Or buy a new one.

One side note....see how the plug connection comes out at a 90 degree angle, and faces down? I bought a new one, and it comes straight out. It is too tight on the wires...I'm going to see if the have the correct one still in stock, or if thats an updated part number.

Good deal! Now I gotta take my advice and either clean or change mine! Did you get a new one or clean yours? If new, did the plug point down or straight out?

I had to buy a new one, when I cleaned it and reinstall the noise was consistent at idle. I could only get the IAC valve with the plug pointing straight out, but it works and work well

is this IAC valve covered under a vehicle's warranty or is it considered one of those pieces that are considered to 'have normal wear and tear?'

I would imagine you can get it done under warrenty, as long as you get a service manager that is willing to listen to reason
