Another 2000 L in Arizona!
As of today I have the first 2000 L in Tucson! It is Silver, the new fastest color (Christy Ann you can convince me otherwise since you are not going to be a Jailbird now...). I just can't believe what a piece of work this truck is...
Anyway here are some questions/comments that I have:
1) My SVT Salesman said to use 5W-30W oil ONLY, not to even think of 10W-30W? Is there a good reason that anybody can think of for this?
2) High Altitude Principal Use: Anybody, Anybody, Bueller?
3) Taxes in Arizona suck (s*u*c*k, in case this gets filtered), $2196.25!
4) Anybody get their Zaino GP order yet?
5) Did you all get that bag of trailer towing stuff? Harnesses and relays?
6) How long before I can spin the tires, how long should I "break" it in?
Wow!

Congrats Bobb!
REF #5 Tow package bag...yes got one. I rotated the truck's lighting connector bracket 180 degrees to hide the plug, (same bracket), 5 Minute job.
REF #6 Break-in before spinning tires...about 16 hours BEFORE I took delivery of my L, (Ford lot in front of 'prep' building).
Later, Jake...

Congradulations bobb! Another one in AZ!!
1) I don't think 5W-30 pertains to Tucson, you'll never be seeing the low temps that other winter spots will.
2)Are you saying you have the high altitude principal use on your L?
3)true, true
4)N/A
5)Yes I did
6)As long as you can resist the temptation. I already (accidentally of course) spun them up. There are many schools of thought of proper break in, my recommendation would be go by what the owners manual says (I haven't read mine yet, so don't know what the period is).
My summation is this: Tomorrow at about 4:30, point your L north on I-10 and meet me at Firebird. If you choose not to run maybe we can atleast meet each other at the track. I'll probably get there around 6:30-7:00. Hope to see you!!

Bob, welcome to the club. Note that Tucson is the lightning capital of the United States according to National Geographic. I wouln't worry about the 5-30 oil, especially if you change to Mobil 1 at the first change. Remember NASCAR stockcars run 0-30 to pick up a few extra horsepower and run even thinner during qualifying. We will have to get a Lightining group on a tour soon.

remember, blown motors run hotter than normal. Something to do with all that compressed air..... Break it in the way you entend to drive it, that way you won't hurt the baby when you spank it! Just watch out for the fuzzzzz. I was in Phoenix last weekend and saw the track on Friday night with the big boys NHRA under the lights. Nice track, cool weather, semi-thin air.
Enjoy

The reason I asked is because Jim Click got a Silver one in on march 2, 2000. My brother sells cars there and saw the lucky fellow picking up his Lightning(Silver)... If it wasnt you then there is actually two in town .. :--)(

Peter B: Yes, I have "High Altitude Principal Use" on the window sticker. What it means or what is does is up for grabs...
Believe me, if I wasn't involved deeply in a huge product launch I would be on my way to Phoenix to get to Firebird, soon though...
Big P: Jim Click, hmmmm, after 4 phone calls, none returned, I scratched them off the list, this was in October of last year.
The guy to go to is Dan Zerbe at Holmes-Tuttle, 292-3600, he was telling me that he has several L scheduled and available, if you mention me (First Silver L he has sold...)and buy I get $100, which would be $100 more than I got off of list... :-)
Zonaman: Thanks for the advice, I been using 10W-30W Mobil 1 in my 'Stang for years, here in Tucson, and in Texas, no problems...I will change the L to this after the 2nd oil change (superstition, no basis in fact...). Looking forward to the tour...

bobb,
That is real strange that you received an L with the high altitude principal use. I am not familiar with what Ford has changed to make the L have that designation, but I would assume it would be for states that are in excess of about 4000 foot altitude.
Had a great time at Firebird last night, sorry you couldn't make it. I plan on making frequent trips as my L breaks in and when I get my PSP filter and then later I will order a PSP chip when the 2000 version is available (that is, if it indeed is different than the 99). Anytime you want to meet at Firebird, post the topic or feel free to email me.
