Anybody need something water jetted?

I got a new job working a water jet machine. For those who don't know what this is, it's a machine that can cut a 6" piece of steel with 60,000 psi of water and granite mixture. I've worked with mainly stainless steel and aluminum and damn does it do a great job. I can cut basically anything you want. If you are interested PM me and let me know and I'll let you know if it's possible. I should have Rhino or some other Auto-Cad program uploaded here soon, so with that I can design anything you want.

Water Jetting now yer talking. 60,000psi
Sounds like a usefull piece of equipment.

I own and operate three jetting rigs but for De-scaling & Sewer Line cleaning.
The biggest has a 450hp engine, hey but she drinks a lot of water.

Just watch yer finger tips

I remember reading about the water jet technology when I was in sixth grade science class in a science magazine, that was 1985...

I have many items cut out on a jet but I also have to go back and make the edges flat[it cuts on a taper[all do]].and the precision is not there. If you are after really close tolerances use a laser and the finish is nicer,But for many things the jet works ok.STan

RUSLOW I'm not sure what your talking about. I have cut 1/2 stainless steel with a perfect edge. maybe your receiving a taper because of the acad setup or because your speed and acceleration is to fast. I need to find a way to get pics up here to show you.

svtandy...and your point is?

You might want to find yourself another waterjet. Some older cheaper jets are limited on doing a good square edge on thicker metals, but the better ones will be just as accurate as any laser with the right operator. At my old job I used to get 2" thick stainless cut with a perfect edge from one of the vendors.

For light sheet metal the laser is the faster, more efficient and therefore cheaper way to go. But when you start going to the thicker materials, 3/8+, most lasers won't be able to do a good job and the waterjet becomes the better alternative. So if you are doing a job with a mixture of thin and thick materials the water jet can do them all with one machine.

I couldn't agree more, I have lots of things cut and the quicker you go the worse it will get. There are many reasons one may have some ill cut, tip's , abrasive's, speed,,etc.
A laser is for the most part cleaner, but if you have a state of the art WJ and all is good it is a hard call...
