New built motor break in - how long til you lean on it?

we put in a jlp shortblock, heads, and cams

i run a 6lb lower and ported apten along with 50 shot (not back on yet)

i plan on upgrading to a 75 shot but was curious when you guys spray.

for break in, we fired the engine up and then shut her down and changed the oil, then it was run on the dyno for like 10 minutes and then we changed the oil again. i am changing the oil again today with about 300 miles on the motor.

the block is a seasoned block as well. so far i've only taken it up to about 5k rpms, trying to do mostly street driving to vary the r's alot, my drive to work is about 7 miles and i try to run it out about 3/4 throttle at least once each way. i'm a big believer in break it in how your gonna use it

how many miles before you guys would recommend WOT runs and how many before the 75 shot?

was planning on trying some wot runs after this oil change today, the tune is a conservative one as well, a lil rich and very safe timing

Johnny told me 1500 miles. It sucked waiting that long to go to the track and spray it, but I think it was worth it.

As soon as you've determined there are no leaks, no oil burning and no overheating.

Race motor NEVER get any lengthy break-in, and they do fine. A major race engine builder once told me that most engine internals look the same in the fist 10 minutes as they do @ 10,000 miles.

Go enjoy.

beef, Blown hatch is right. If the motor has moly rings, break in is not going to do any good, beyond about 300 miles.

Most race engines are broken in by 3/4 of a mile. That is,
(3) 1/4 mile passes.

If you have done the startup and oil change, cut the filter open and inspect it for metal. If the filter looks good, make some HP.

had about 300 miles on it and changed oil for the 3rd time yesterday, made a couple of WOT blasts, feels pretty good

True, but a few passes later, they are shot

I have a JDM block, LFP Stage II Heads, and Crower Stage II Cams and I followed the break in procedures that VT uses. My engine runs like a dream.
