Went to the track today. New Best and almost DIED!!!
Well, since all of the events in this area got rained out Saturday, I decided to hit-up Mason Dixon Drag Strip today. It's not the best or fastest track out there, but it was the only one doing a T&T today. I had all of my race stuff on/in the truck so I thought... what the hay. JJ from WMS and a couple other Lightning guys were there and so was just about everybody else in Maryland. So here is what I got on the first run...
R/T: .490
60': 1.749
330: 4.902
1/8: 7.574
MPH: 91.13
1000': 9.902
1/4: 11.855
MPH: 115.77
I am trying to figure out what's best to launch with the new set-up. This converter is proving to be a little tricky. I feel like I'm not getting a very good launch. I did a little weight reduction and went for my second (last) run and this is where it got interesting...
R/T: .227
60': 1.718
330: 4.802
1/8: 7.430
MPH: 92.47
1000': 9.729
1/4: 11.662
MPH: 116.90
I still didn't get a very good launch. I need practice with the new set-up. Both runs were on my street tune: 14* of timing, 14 PSI of KB, Hoosier slicks, and pump gas.
STORY:
I was half way through my run when I saw the car in the other lane kick out a lot of smoke. I kept going because it looked like he had it under control. I crossed the 1/4 mile line and this dude just loses it. He starts fishing all over the place and crosses over into my lane right in front of me. So I try to slow down from 116 and I can see that I am going to hit him if I don't do something. I steered to the left and my left side tires went off the track. I tried to correct it and lost control. I manage to steer my way around and miss him while I was completely sideways. So I slide sideways back across the track and into the grass on his side. The whole time all I can think is....Damn, I hope I don't hit a pot-hole or a ditch. That would have sucked. Well, as you can see, I survived. I slid for about 100 feet and got mud and grass all over my truck. Even got some grass wedged in the bead between my left front tire and the rim. Turns out the dude blew a coolant hose and lost control when it got on his tires. He is okay and my truck is okay.
I figured I would be pressing my luck to make anymore runs that day, so I packed up and went home. JJ told me to stop at a church on the way and thank the lord.

its usually the other guy that you have to look out for. thats why i put a bar in my truck way before i started running the numbers to actually require it. glad to hear you made it out alright. next time just abort the run its not worth risking your life especially when its just a t&t session.
